These are Eureka Tlingit (Northwestern American IV/11). I went for a spring thaw backdrop with plank houses and a war canoe camp. Ordered a totem keyring but it hasn't arrived from eBay. Cheers Jim

At 1000AD your blades are 4Bd rather than the earlier raiders (3Bd). If the Anglo Saxons want to nail themselves to the hill you can march your line to the bottom and use TZ to pin them in place. If you line up opposite the junction of the spears you can pin 10 elements with only 9 of yours. That leaves 3 elements to destroy the Ps and threaten the camp. I would take a Blade and a Warband against the Ps and another blade through the opposite wood. Which way will the Anglo-Saxon general go?
Cheers

They already have Pacto armies based on Xyston for MeG on their websites. Not a perfect balance for DBA but much cheaper than metal. Likely to be easier to drill holes for spears through the resin.

Which army list was used for the Rhodians Martin? Cheers, I donโt have the rules to hand to check , but it may be II/5i , Later Hoplite Greek โotherโ. This includes Rhodians, who are littoral, while other โothersโ (if you get my meaning) are arable. II/5i Other Hoplite Armies in Greece 448-225BC and II/5j Overseas mercenary expeditions are quite useful army lists. Post Pelopennsian War there were multitudes of Greek mercenary hoplites for hire. Many of these troops are accounted for in the army lists, sometimes by name. The Phokian list (II/5f) would contain many mercenaries hired after plundering the riches of Delphi. What puzzles me is that the II/5i list has no allies. I would've thought they would be able to ally with all the named army lists, particularly as DBA3 seems to be aimed at that ~5000-10000 size army rather than the 20000+. If you want to do Mantinea 418BC then you would have Argos (II/5i) leading with an Athenian ally. Also, strangely, only Thebes (II/5c) can ally with II/5i of the other hoplite lists. Similar anomalies are in the Early Hoplite Greek lists. I/52g Asiatic Greek Hoplite Army 668-449BC has no allies so representing Athenian and Eretrian contingents at the Battle of Ephesus is problematic. Most puzzling of all is the I/52f Later Athenian Army 540-449BC has no allies, so the Plataeans cannot come to Marathon! Cheers Jim

Fantastic stevie! I'll have a read tomorrow. Here is a link to Damn Battleships Again (DBSA), PB's prototype for DBA on the high seas. It may have some ideas. DBSACheers Jim

Still struggling to get the hang of this approach, but have settled on just using them as a flesh wash over a light flesh base and adding a single highlight without sealing. I also use them to add shading to weapon shafts. As such Iโm really using them as a traditional wash so may be not getting the full benefit from them. Not quite mastered it yet but have just ordered some of the new Vallejo express paints to see how they compare - certainly cheaper than their competitors. If you have a boardgame with minis, try painting them. I started with Zombicide Black Plague and 80 zombies later I had some idea! Jim

Army painter is getting ready to release Speedpaint 2.0. They say that these will dry faster and not reactivate so highlighting will be much easier. But now there ae so many to choose from given Citadel, Army Painter, Vallejo and Green Stuff World are in the market, it has become quite daunting. I will wait for the new Army Painter release and then spend some time on the youtube comparison videos to pick and choose which paints I will buy as each company has its own strengths. But living in Australia it will be mostly Army Painter and Citadel I suspect.
Cheers

I've always had the fantasy to play DBA at double base widths with 6mm Baccus figures. Would look awesome!

I don't have any tournament experience. But I do sometimes practice terrain setup to see how my shapes and sizes cope with the vagaries of the dice roll.

Even in Good Going, blades will beat spears more often. But spears have a fighting chance, particularly against 3Bd, where they win ties (Solid v Fast). The trick is to protect your flanks with either light troops in difficult going (Bd -2) or cavalry (3v3). Having a lower aggression army helps you to influence the terrain. I think spears can match warband in good going even with the "quick kill" warband has against spear. Again, spear wins ties against 3Wb and overlaps will kill warband pretty quickly. Flanks are more tricky as warband doesn't mind difficult terrain. Use auxiliary if available (3v3). However, warband hate cavalry so use your horsemen to effect.
Hope that helps.

Very nice work! Deep bases do lift the appearance of massed infantry.

Back on topic. I think most ancient Cav were javelin armed and used shoot and scoot but slower and possibly smaller range than LH. Still fast enough to get away from infantry. Shock cavalry comes later.

I like that the name is easy to spell. Have you tried the names of some of David Manley's naval rules? Jim
