A few years ago I bought a cheap "cordless multi-grinder" from Lidl (a European supermarket found in both the UK and Bulgaria) to make it easier to build some resin kits for my toy trains. It has been brilliant for me, and I don't regret the purchase. On the other hand, I tend to use it occasionally, and experience has taught me that if you are going to use any power tool a lot, buying a more expensive but higher quality tool usually works out better, and sometimes cheaper. I suppose that what I am trying to say is "horses for courses".

One legionnaire to another "I joined to forget her, but I can't!". Second legionnaire "What was her name?" First legionnaire "Sandra".

Aaah, I picked up a load of early italian stuff at one of the PAWS events - i have villanovan and the other tribes. I dont think they'll fight well under dba though. They give good games against reasonably historical opponents. Not sure whether or not they would be a match for Burgundian Ordinance...

Salutations, gentlefolk ! My kid sister is a Villanova Univ. alumna, should I ever find the Villanovan figures, would get them and paint them up for her... MY Miniatures - contact info, please, don't remember hearing about them before. MY Miniatures has 2 sites, one with a lot of pictures and the other with Internet shopping facilities: www.spanglefish.com/mickyarrowminiatures/mickyarrowminiatures.co.ukPlease look under the ancients ranges. MY Miniatures are quite a small company. They do a few things that not many or no other companies do. Their figures do vary a bit by range, although the only time that I have been disappointed is when I got an Early Anglo-Saxon army without shields. When I lived in the UK I used to see them at some of the northern English shows. Since moving, I have used the Internet to order from them. Donnington Miniatures' Villanovans are quite nice, in my opinion: shop.ancient-modern.co.uk/villanovan-italian-21-c.aspI tend to like the Donnington figures, and the fact that they sell by individual figures at no extra cost, although there is a minimum postage charge. Not sure about the version 3 army lists, but version 2 had an early sub-list which was mainly 3Wb, and a later sub-list with an extra mounted element and more varied infantry (5 x 4Wb, 4 x 3Ax, 1 x 2Ps). The earlier sub-list suited my normal opponents for them better chronologically, but the later one was more interesting to play, in my opinion. I liked the DBA Villanovans because they were a colourful opponent for my Early Northern Barbarian Europe 1400 to 701BC. They were high on list to be converted to what I play now.

Both Donnington Miniatures and MY Miniatures do Villanovan Italians. My Villanovans are a mixture, leaning more towards MY Miniatures for the early infantry. (I use the mounted for both, so I can't field an early Villanovan army at the same time as a late one.)
My Italian Hill Tribes army is purely Donnington, as are the Umbrians and Tullian Romans.

In many respects my favourite version of DBA...
Unfortunately, I find myself moving towards using another set of rules, otherwise I would gladly take you up on your kind offer. Hope that you find a good home for it.

Another one: The small armies make it relatively easy to paint suitable opponents, or even to paint an army specifically for a themed competition.

My Tullian Romans are Donnington, and I am very pleased with them. When I bought them I wasn't 100% happy with their choice of figures for the DBA army pack. I priced up buying my choices as individual figures against the cost of an army pack, and found the price to be the same. I wish that I had gone to Donnington for my Etruscan League army.
The ability to buy by the individual figure is also useful if there are changes to army lists or indeed if you change the game you play to one needing a few more figures.

Looking at the numbers of troops depicted by an element (typically 1,000 to 1,200 in older versions of DBA, possibly less in version 3 - please ask someone with version 3) it seems to me that a line of Blades in DBA represents at least 2 of the lines. As far as I understand, the hastatiti and princepes lines were typically very close together. I believe that they acted as if they were one line with the different parts acting as a tactical reserve (when the hastati got tired or used up their pila, the princepes would have a go). If fact, my 6mm Polybian Romans have hastati and princepes on the same base. This picture shows the army on the left hand side with two lines both consisting of hastati and princepes: . This still leaves the question of what to do with the triarii. In DBA, the obvious tactic is to put them on the ends of the infantry battle line because they are better against mounted. Whether or not this was a typical Roman deployment is an interesting question.

Although I am not a fan of Games Workshop, my sympathy is with them, in this case. I believe that PETA is a ridiculous organisation that on the whole, harms the cause of animal welfare.
Edit: ....because it makes the cause of preventing cruelty to animals look ridiculous.

Thank you Terry. I have replied. I have a choice of 3 possible armies that I could take that might fit the theme.

Thank you for that advance information. I haven't planned my annual trip to the UK yet. I have a feeling that it might be possible for me to get to Staines from where I would be staying.

Paul Potter did some, which are on the old Fanaticus under 'Period Variants', also to be found on the new website that took most of the documents but not the forum: fanaticus.website/A direct link is: fanaticus.website/periodadaptations/AWIDBA.pdfI bought the DBN extension for the AWI, but you really need the main DBN rules (which have to be paid for, but which I do have and use) to use it. At the moment, I have nearly all my good guys painted (including Hessians), but have not yet started the rebel army.

This is the host show for the relocated DBA Northern Cup, run by Paul Murgatroyd. Sorry, if I had realised that, I would have have posted this on the tournaments board. I used to really enjoy the Northern Cup when I lived in Sheffield. If there are any places remaining, I would recommend anyone within reasonable traveling distance to put in for it. Paul and his friends supply the armies (and scenery), so the match-ups are historical. The old Fanaticus site is still there, although hardly used. I have a feeling that the story is a bit complicated, but I understand that payment for an extra year's hosting was made accidentally, and that Chris was aware that some third parties wanted time to access the old threads to store information from them. Chris will have posted the information on the site, but it is a little while since I read it. Edit: Just a suggestion, but if anyone at the tournament happens to visit the Kallistra stand, perhaps they could mention the change of website? If I remember correctly, some of their fantasy monsters have Hordes of the Things possibilities for 6mm and 15mm armies, so it might not be a waste of time visiting the stand.
