I had settled on a Dremel Stylus - then found out they don't make them anywhere. What does everyone else use ehre? I'm looking for something low torque, specifically for modelling/ drilling hands for spears etc. Any good chocies?

Try checking out watch/ makers tools. They include very fine files and drills.

I use a hand drill as well. Pretty much just for spears, I try to go for big figs like xyston so not too bad to drill through. Have pinned a few bigger figs as well and had a proud moment pinning the head of a halbard back on a dark elf black guard fig.
Every x mass I consider asking everyone to chip in so I can get a dremel etc but decide I won't get use out of it and instead get them to chip in ang get me something else I won't use instead.
Must say probably like many on here I still get toy soldiers from my mum at Christmas.

My Dremel 3000 is in near constant use. Best £42 I ever spent......well add £4 for the chuck attachment which is essential. I used to have a hobby drill that lasted 20+ years but slowly died so I bought the Dremel.

A few years ago I bought a cheap "cordless multi-grinder" from Lidl (a European supermarket found in both the UK and Bulgaria) to make it easier to build some resin kits for my toy trains. It has been brilliant for me, and I don't regret the purchase. On the other hand, I tend to use it occasionally, and experience has taught me that if you are going to use any power tool a lot, buying a more expensive but higher quality tool usually works out better, and sometimes cheaper. I suppose that what I am trying to say is "horses for courses".

Hand drill for me, it was less than €10 and I have drilled many hands out for spears with no complaints.

I don't have the wherewithal to drill out 15mm hands any more. I do drill when flagpoles break and glue rods in place that look good enough from a distance. Are you drilling 15mm hands or larger?

Yes, like Baldie I am drilling out hands for spears of mainly Xyston minis. It's not too bad because they are larger figures, plus I always use a magnifying lamp, it has made a world of difference to my painting and modelling!

Both hand drill/pin vise and a Dremel. Depends on the application. I have ruined some miniatures with the Dremel hacking off hands and arms!
