Hello Dale. I still have copies of Solo DBA on my computer. (I presume that it is Solo DBA that you are interested in.) Solo DBA has 3 slightly different versions for different versions of DBA. The completed one is for DBA 2.2. There are unfinished versions optimised for DBA 1.1 and 2.2+. The versions for DBA 2.2 and DBA 1.1 are on the Fanaticus Wiki, which is accessible from this site. I haven't added the version for the DBA 2.2+ because there didn't to be seem any interest in it.
If you have any difficulty finding Solo DBA on the Fanaticus Wiki, or it is the unfinished version for 2.2+ that you want, please let me know. If you need me to email one or more versions to you, it might be better if you send me a personal message on this site. I try to visit Fanaticus fairly frequently. Regards,
Richard

Not really keen in having to buy in large numbers. If you have to buy pre-packaged armies that may or may not bear any relation to the army lists used by the rules that you intend to use it can more than offset lower prices per figure. I have many more Donnington (who sell by the individual figure) figures than I have figures from Lancashire Games, for instance.

The figures that I started wargaming with were 6mm Baccus Montrose v. Scottish government armies. I later took up using 15mm and 25/28mm figures. I don't do many skirmish games these days, and I much prefer 6mm and 15mm for battle-games. I use 6mm for Napoleonics, American War of Independence, English Civil War/Great Rebellion, and also some ancient games. I particularly like 15mm for slightly unusual armies which I can't get figures for in 6mm.
If I had to choose one figure size, it would be 15mm, mainly because of the greater range available. Honourable mention to 6mm, though, for mass effect and ability to depict formations on the bases. All of my Napoleonics and AWI, and most of my 6mm ancients are now on 60mm wide bases.

Sorry about the delay. I seem to have done it now.

DBA 2.2+ is a set of house rules for DBA 2.2. You need a copy of DBA 2.2 to play it, as well as a summary sheet of the amendments.
I do realise that Phil Barker didn't, and presumably doesn't, like it. I seem to recall a comment by him wishing that the people behind 2.2+ would do their own game. They since have, which probably reduced the number of people playing 2.2+.

Thanks for your reply, nowandzen. I will try and put the Solo DBA for version 1.1 onto the wiki in the next few days.
Interesting that you like 1.1. I prefer it to v2.0 or vanilla 2.2. It was also the version of DBA that I started with. Before I went into Triumph!, I had started doing solo games of it using the v2 army lists and 32" by 24" rectangular boards. Because I live outside the UK, with limited numbers potential opponents, I thought that I would be better with something that was current (as in easy to get new rulebooks) and would be played without modification.

As most people now know, Yahoo will be getting rid of the files of the Yahoo groups. There is an unfinished version of Solo DBA for 1.1. I have uploaded the finished version of Solo DBA for 2.2 onto the Fanaticus Wiki. Is there any interest in the unfinished version for 1.1? It is unlikely that I will finish the version of Solo DBA for DBA v1.1. My impression is that few players still play version 1.1. I am participating in developing an alternative to DBA and HotT, and are unlikely to spend significant time playing 1.1. I would be very happy if someone else wanted to either finish play-testing and adjustment, or use it as the basis for their own creation. Excluding major computer and back-up disasters, I expect to keep a copy beyond the time that Yahoo gets rid of the files. I might add that DBA 1.1 is one of my two favourite versions of DBA.

It is unlikely that I will finish the 2.2+ version of Solo DBA. I am aware that many 2.2+ players have moved on to Triumph!. I am participating in developing an alternative to DBA and HotT, and are unlikely to spend significant time playing 2.2+. Also, the armies that I have access to don't include some of the troop types. I would be very happy if someone else wanted to either finish play-testing and adjustment, or use it as the basis for their own creation.
Excluding major computer and back-up disasters, I expect to keep a copy beyond the time that Yahoo gets rid of the files.
I must add that DBA 2.2+ is one of my two favourite versions of DBA.

Thank you Stevie. I think I have done it. I will keep my login details in case anyone wants me to put unfinished versions for DBA 1.1 or 2.2+ on.

Sorry for the delay in replying. That sounds like an excellent suggestion, Stevie. I will try to find out who is able to upload into the Wiki.

Further comment - Some of the users don't receive emails from the group, so would not receive the above message. Many will be on here, though.
The offer to let others make Solo DBA freely available and develop it further (for instance, by doing a version for DBA version 3) applies to anyone, not just members of the Yahoo group, by the way.

I have sent the following message to the group:
Important Announcement Regarding the SoloDNAdelopment Yahoo Group
Yahoo will stopping users uploading files to the group on 28th October 2019. They will remove all previously posted content on, or shortly after, 14th December 2019.
All versions of Solo DBA will be removed, so I recommend that everyone who hasn’t done so download anything that they are interested in, or think that they may become interested in later.
This brings me to the future of the group. I don’t think that it will be worth keeping the group going after the files are removed. There isn’t a huge amount of discussion on here. My impression is that most members joined to access the files (which is fine).
If anyone else wants to organise making Solo DBA freely available on the Internet, I would very happy. I would be even more happy if they adapted it for DBA version 3, and developed it further. I don’t play DBA or Hordes of the Things much now because I am working on an alternative. I never really took to version 3 of DBA (although I recognise that it gives many people a lot of pleasure). I will also be posting about this on the Fanaticus site.

Yep, I will be posting about the Solo DBA Development group shortly in the relevant section of this forum.
Edit: Where are the people posting "Don't call me 'Shortly'" when you need them?

For 15mm figures I tend to do batches of 6 to 8. Sometimes I like to have more than one batch going at a time (often one batch will be one army and the other batches will be different armies). I couldn't envisage painting 6mm figures in anything but batches. Usually a batch of 6mm figures will be what goes on a base.

I tend to use either wood or leather colour for the backs of shields. The last time I did Greek hoplites I think that I used wood. The exception is Etruscan hoplites, where I paint the backs of the shields light blue. Apparently, Etruscan art frequently depicts the backs of their hoplite shields as blue.
