Thanks. Things must have been really bad for the XXI Dynasty that they don't even rate an army-list.

A question for any Egyptiologists on this fair forum...
What follows NKE in the DBA Lists? The I/22b NKE list ends in 1069 BC. The next Egyptian list of any sort appears to be I/38 Libyan Egyptian, which starts in 946 BC. What of those missing decades?

...why not universally apply the concept to all units including mounted units? Because it's just not going to happen. But you are free to alter or rewrite the rules as you wish for your own personal games.

Tony, Do we have the right links above...for access to your version 3.0 of DBA-RRR? There is no link to a 3.0 version of Tony's RRR, because Tony never created such a version. He has said on this forum and elsewhere there he likely won't ever do so, for lotsa perfectly valid reasons. Eric Donaldson and I crafted a simple transliteration (only) of Tony's RRR to 3.0 mechanics. While this allows us the opportunity on occasion to run our various Renaissance armies against each other, we know it's not up to Tony's high standards, and so we won't share it publicly. --Most anyone could do what we did anyway.

I was a bit busy yesterday and it wasn't until this afternoon that I remembered that yesterday marked a year since the last posting on the Legio Heroica website. And yet I still check back almost daily. Ever hopeful...

Stumbled across this old thread. That Ganesha / pink elephant standard (above) is a riot. (Guessing it's relatively modern.) Is there some Indian or South Asian army for which it might be even plausibly appropriate?

But a leading Cv (or any other than LH) in front with LH in second rank gets no rear support? Correct on all counts. Rear support factors "apply when elements have another element of the same type lined-up directly behind..." [emphasis added].

Once you try Xyston you never go back. Now, that's a scary thought, especially for one whose "happy place" is painting more of his cherished Mikes Models. More likely, this (probable) purchase of a Xyston Paionian army will be a one-off thing. I just hope they won't be too out-of-scale. And, as for their being "18mm giants", as paulisper described them, maybe that will actually be a good thing, for this the CRAPPIEST of all DBA armies. Perhaps the sheer size of the Paionian Auxilia and Psiloi will intimidate all the enemy Knights, Blades and Pikes as they face them...on a wide-open and barren plain. Yeah, right.

Yes, the Essex Sui Dynasty figures are very nice. Since you mentioned going with all-options, you will require a LOT of figures, what with all the 8BW and 7Hd elements, hence the higher cost for this army (not to mention the steep postage costs from the Mother Country.) Festoon them with lots of flags, and you'll have one of the more eye-catching armies around. For me, that makes it worth the cost.

I've convinced myself I gotta have what is arguably DBA's crappiest army, I/63 Paionians. (See Stevie's rant about this army here.) I'm not jazzed about my on-hand options to build it. Xyston actually makes " Paionian Cavalry" and the General is a dead ringer for the description in the Purple Commentary. Thus far, I have refused to buy Xyston cuz they're the poster boys of scale creep. My one-man boycott has been less than successful, however. And, they look really gorgeous, so...here goes. All Xyston. (I rarely mix ranges.) The LH (Gen) and second LH are easy: One pack of ANC20079 Paionian Cavalry. For the 4Ax (Gen) and second 4Ax Hypaspist elements, I had been thinking of ANC20074 Macedonian Hypaspists, but I think "Jim1973" has a better suggestion: ANC2007 Agrianian Javelinmen. Add in a pack of ANC20110 Hellenstic Musicians & Standards to spiff up the command elements. For the Fast Auxilia and Psiloi, their Thracian Peltasts and Thracian Archers look about right...unless someone has better suggestions?

Stevie, in another thread said... "I brought the crappiest DBA army, I/63 Paionians..."
Naturally, this comment has me pawing thru my unpainted Mikes Models* Macedonians to see if I can build and paint a I/63 Paionian army, so I too can have DBA's crappiest army.
* Or, failing that, maybe an excuse to buy a new army. :-)

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll go with those HSA codes (from their Asiatic Hordes range.) Makes good sense.
Wow-- Gorgeous figures, Vodnik. Love all their "festive" capes. Dang, I thought I was pretty good at painting checkerboard patterns. I got nothin' on you! Awesome.

I have a surplus of Essex figures that would be an ideal for the (post AD-798) 4xSp of a III/26a Early Serbian army. What Essex code would be appropriate for the 3x3Kn elements? (The army-pack make-up is useless, cuz Essex list codes instead for III/25c Khawarij.)

Mayan Veterinary Society, as camp followers for my Maya army... Really awesome. --Of course, those outfits look great now, but in about two seconds they're either gonna be all blood splattered, or that little kitty is gonna wake up and scratch out the priests' eyeballs! (Grins.)
