A question for any Egyptiologists on this fair forum...
What follows NKE in the DBA Lists? The I/22b NKE list ends in 1069 BC. The next Egyptian list of any sort appears to be I/38 Libyan Egyptian, which starts in 946 BC. What of those missing decades?

Hi Paul this is what happened... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-first_Dynasty_of_EgyptThe I/38 Libyan Egyptian list as you've noted is the only entry in the purple book that follows on from the New Kingdom list, so there is a gap between 1069BC and 946BC.

Thanks. Things must have been really bad for the XXI Dynasty that they don't even rate an army-list.

Certainly by no means an expert but I am a great peruser of army lists.
The Triumph rules have a list Nile Princes 1080-725 BC, looks like a mix of Egyptians and the usual bits and pieces along with some Meshwesh that overlaps the Libyan Egyptian 946-712 BC list.
The Field of Glory II PC game has the list Egyptian 1068-946 BC, which again looks like the usual mix of troops along with Sherden and Libyan swordsmen. It also includes this little nugget of text with it:
The pharaohs of the twenty-first dynasty ruled from Tanis, but only controlled Lower (northern) Egypt. The High Priests of Amun at Thebes ruled Middle and Upper Egypt in all but name.

Which is the exact wording of Wikipedia.

According to the University College of London website we should equate the term 'Libyan,' with 'originating in the western desert. Some of the rulers were probably 'NKE' generals, and in the south, priests of Amun.

I'm guessing that there is no recording of the XXI dynasty fighting anyone - from what I remember of the WRG6th list blurb for the Libyan Egyptian is that there was ongoing migration from the Western Desert. Eventually one of the Libyan Chieftains made himself Pharaoh. When said Libyan Pharaoh marched down the Nile to regain control over upper Egypt from the Priest of Amun - this kickstarted the Kushite Pharaoh to come North and take over the whole of Egypt.
So I hazarding a guess that the period 1068BC-945BC saw Egypt divided between the XXI dynasty (Lower Egypt) and the High Priest of Amun (Middle/Upper Egypt) but no conflict between two relatively weak polities. To the West the Libyans didn't need to fight when they could walk in, to the South the Nubians were Amun worshippers so not picking a fight with their spiritual head and to the East no serious incursions across the desert. The Sea Peoples had already been put in their place.
Cheers
