Believe it or not I paint the base and whilst still wet dip it in flock and shake off the excess. Works well. In fact I have an army that has lasted 6 ybefore looking tatty.

I used 2.2+ for sometime. But having read, digested and tried out DBA 3.0 I have now moved over to it totally.

Like Bob sez....... City/Fort/Camp blocks recoil, as does Wwy. I THINK, but am not sure, that wheeled heavy items (artillery/warwagons) ARE allowed to recoil into bad going which they may not make a tactical move in (but not totally sure....maybe Joe C can clarify?). Keep it up, Phippsy.....got us all thinking :-) That was my understanding as well. But I have been known to be wrong....in fact with monotonous regularity

Reminds me of of my RAF training days. A Certain Officer Cadet kept fouling up his drill. In exasperation the Drill Sergeant Points at the Cadet with his Pace Stick saying "At the end of this stick, Sir, there is a bloody idiot!"
Cadet replied, "And which end of the stick would that be Sergeant?"
For his ill directed wit he had to run the mile to the gate and back. I had to accompany him, as I laughed!

Quite a lot. In DBA/HOTT the target element gets +2, but in this set the firer gets between -1 and -3 (average -2). Whilst the chance of winning or losing is basically the same, the chances of the element not in cover being doubled are greatly increased. Was this a deliberate design decision? The original rules make the element in cover harder to kill. These make it more likely the element outside the cover will be killed. Thanks. Alan I have to confess that I did not look into it that deeply. But based on my understanding tackling infantry in cover was costly to the atacking force.

In memory of Sir William 'Night Owl' Waller, Sir Richard Bolle and all the cast and crew who made today memorable for the folk of the small town of Alton, Hampshire. I believe our Moderator's ancestor was there. Which side?
Martin(in Alton ) My ancestor was from my Mothers side and was in fact Colonel Boles which was how our family have recorded the spelling of his name. Later it somehow got corrupted to Bolt! The late Donald Featherstone devised a great campaign based on this action in his book "Wargame Campaigns". I also created a scenario of the battle for the computer game "Pike and Shotte Campaigns" which Richard Bodley-Scott kindly uploaded for me.

A couple of questions after a skim-read of the rules. (i) How are commanders based? They seem to be attached to elements, but can exist apart from them. Is a commander a full element or just a nominal marker? (ii) If an element shoots at an enemy element that has shooting capability, does the enemy shoot back? (Standard DBA/HOTT says yes, but I wasn't sure in this case, since the tactical factors for cover greatly favour a shooting unit in such cover during the exchange.) Thank Commanders are based separately one or two figures to a base but are not a complete element themselves. If on their own and engaged in combat or shot at treat as dragoons but with out the ability to return fire. Yes enemy does shoot back. I agree though it does favour in cover the shooting element.

I like the sound of these ideas. Be interesting to see how they work out in play.

Very good sir! My work area is always a mess. It's a wonder anything is ever done on it. A work colleague did once remark that I am the type of person who given a clear desk and two postage stamps could make the desk look cluttered!

No reading "Prince Rupert, the last cavalier" by Charles Spencer. Very interesting and highly readable.

Good stuff. If I recall correctly, his grammar wasn't up to much anyway. Slightly ironic for someone peddling online writing services! Simon Young boy in class is speaking. His teacher stops him and asks "Where is your grammar?" To which the boy replies "Gone to the cinema with me Granpa!"
