Was walking south on Broadway last night, noted that he and the Discovery crew were in the last 'ticker-tape-parade' _not_ held for a sports star or team. (There are letters embedded in the sidewalk, commemorating them all. Just don't cause collisions while looking down.) (Note that he did not get one for earlier space feats.)
(For trivia question of day, who was the last non-American (not counting sport players) to get one ? )
And now he belongs to the stars. Ave atque vale!

I do not think anybody who has been brought up in the computer and mobile phone age will every have felt the excitement that those of us who watched it live did.
We used phones (not mobile) and our mouths to talk to people, and the library (with printed books).
Dad woke up me and my sister, we went down stairs to all our neighbours from both sides sitting in their night attire waiting and watching on a black and white 405 line TV the proceedings.
It was a moment in history.

I agree, David. I remember watching that scratchy B&W broadcast on a small TV in the school library - most of the school crowded in there. My mum came to school and took me home for a better view - bless her. I feel very lucky to have been born in the analog age!
