I sometimes wonder if Pikes were as effective as history would have us believe.

This is a great idea. I love mapless campaigns. Easy to put away and then pick up again.

I have been away for a week with the boat on the Norfolk Broads but have returned!
Thought I would mention it in case anyone missed me, unlike the guy in my local ale house who asked “Oh, have you been away?”
Viking village has three longships. Each time they raid England two of the longships return laden with slaves and treasure, the third always comes back empty..
Annoyed at this third loss rate the village Jarl goes on the poorly performing ship to see what’s happening.
Ships return and again two are near sinking under weight of treasure, but the third has nothing. The Jarl gets off the boat ans yells to the Captain of the third boat “Your an idiot! See me in my hall in ten minutes.
Dejected the Captain goes into the great hall. He is in there an hour and finally emerges reciting over and over again
”Rape, Pillage and THEN burn!”

I have 20mm WotR armies but a larger collection in 6mm which gives the "army" feel. I also have two Punic war armies for Big battle DBA in 6mm, again the look is great.
I game Napoleonic's, War of the Spanish Succession and ACW in 2mm. I also with 10mm British Colonial and Zulu armies. I love the 6mm scale as it looks good especially on the 60mm bases when the base is filled with figures.

The first battle of the Wars of the Roses, that of Holdstock's Fields, is about to take place. Warrick, for Edward IV, has set up in as best a defensive line as he can but faces the daunting approach of Stanley and Oxford being lead by Henry VI himself! A lot of bows may go some way to denting the Lancastrian approach but when it comes to blows the Yorkists were far far out matched! There was some fairly effective bow fire but Warrick is clearly having second thoughts as, based on a rule, he's done nothing all game just stood and watched while the Cornish Levy and Royal Armouries men do all the work. The Lancastrians pushed forward but became progressively disorganised, not least because the 3 different nobles refused to join into one big unit. The battle ended in a very surprising way! Warwick decided he couldn't be bothered to fight while there were poor people who could do the dying so took his men and buggered off. "Well shit, we're screwed" thought the men of Cornwall and the Royal Armouries as the sun glinted off the armour of waves of Lancastrians coming to give the grief. Yet it was not to be. Skirmishers on the left, a cannon and a unit of bowmen in the middle and blind hope holding the right the Yorkists were not only able to break up the attack but tear chunk out of the attacking bowmen. The final nail in the coffin was when the cannon rolled a 6 to a unit of heavy foot knights' 1 and the attackers had had enough. Yorkist surprise victory, Stanleys took 3/4 casualties and Warwick probably has some questions to answer. Good times indeed. (This is a summary I posted, with the odd picture, to a couple of groups on WhatsApp and Discord... it was only after I realised maybe a DBA forum might enjoy a summarised AAR of a DBA game lol) Good report! By way of interest have you looked at the WotR specific rules "Test of Resolve"? I have tried them and they give a good game with loads of period flavour. Having said that DBA is still my main choice.

Thank you. That is a really helpful tool. Cromwell is there somewhere the link could be stored for easy reference, please? I have created a new board under rules entitled DBA Data bases. Perhaps links could be posted there. Hope that helps.

Today by doing a bit of morphing with my 6mm Italian War figures and my War of the Roses figures I created a Swiss army IV/79C and Burgundian Ordnance army IV/85A. The Burgundians took the L/H option over the artillery or Knights.
I played Swiss and my solo system handled the Burgundians.
As the title says the Swiss should have kept to making clocks! I was slaughtered 6 elements to nil.
shot to pieces by the longbows and then ridden down by the knight elements. Even halberds blown away by cannon fire,
So much for the mighty Swiss. No wonder they all became neutral!

Hello Cromwell,
sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but would it be for you to post or even pm me your Napoleonic Spanish list for the 2x2 rules?
Tried to find them but no luck, just people saying the infantry would be classed as militia.
Regards
Mark W
Hi, No problem. At work so will dig them out later when I am at home. Spanish Army list. I treat Line as line infantry but there must be at least 3 militia units. 1-HQ (Commander) 0-6 Line Infantry 0-1 Grenadier 0-2 Heavy Cavalry 0-2 Light Cavalry 0-1 Foot Artillery (3)-6 Militia 1AP Hope this helps.

Irregular Minatures do quite an extensive range of 2mm scenery although I am not convinced the scale is always right.
