As some of you know I have before dabbled in 2mm for ECW and HYW.
On a whim I purchased for the princely sum of £9.99 Irregular Miniatures 2mm Napoleonic Battle Pack. This gives a set of simple rules and two armies, you select protagonists from the list. I selected Russian and French.
I intend to fight them using the DBN rules.
Once painted up I will post pictures on my web page. If all goes well I intend to expand with Prussian, Austrian and British.
Currently I play DBN in the Peninsular British and French 20mm using a mixture of Airfix and Irregular figures.
I also enjoy Command and Colours Napoleonic but I only have the basic set and have not expanded it at all as it is quite a high cost factor.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on. We play sharp practice and BP in 28mm but really fancy something in 6mm if I could ever face doing a full army.

Sounds good Cromwell.
Do you intend to use the standard DBN sized bases (with presumably multiple castings per DBN base)? Alternatively you might just reduce the size of the DBN base (say half width and depth?) and just play with the reduced base size and reduce the ranges accordingly?
What is the make up of the Irregular Miniatures battle packs? At that price it might be “worth a punt” as our American friends say.
I hope the project goes well and will keep an eye open for your progress.
Take care & keep safe,
Geoff

elliesdad: Irregular sells packs that consist of two armies and a set of rules. The rules are very old school. The armies are nice, but you would probably make a better choice by just manually selecting the things you want from their catalogue. I have used DBN (the commercially available one www.dbnwargaming.co.uk/) and found it quite serviceable. There also is 2 by 2, which is made exactly for the purpose of using 2mm armies. www.rodvik.com/2by2/I would probably go with that, since DBN is written on the basis of DBA 2 (or DBA 1 even?) and I find mixing the different versions of DBA in my head quite confusing. Already have trouble telling DBA 3 and HotT apart.

I intend to base two battalions of Infantry per base using DBN basing, two Regiments of Cavalry per base, two Guns for Foot artillery and one gun for horse artillery. Camps are already catered for as Irregular very kindly threw in a small village model and a country wayside Inn model!

This site is handy - it has a description, and most importantly the SIZES, of all the Irregular Miniatures 2mm blocks. Very handy when planning ‘what will fit on my 40mm (/60mm) bases. www.tinytintroops.co.uk/Res/2mm/2mm_blocks.htm

Both 2mm Russian and French armies now painted. I will post photos on my web page a little later.
Now ordering 2mm Austrian, Prussian and British Armies and the scenic pack from Irregular miniatures.
I have played a trial battle using DBN and a trial using the 2 by 2 rules. I have to say the 2 by 2 rules really play well with 2mm figures.

Top marks to Irregular Miniatures. They did not do a Battle Pack army for the Napoleonic Spanish. Bit of a blow as I wish to extend my Napoleonics into the Peninsular. Also Irregular produce five Battle Pack armies this left me unable to get the Prussians and I could not order the elements to make up the Prussians as I had no idea what codes and quantities theyused.
I e-mailed Ian Kaye at Irregular, within an hour he e-mailed back (It was evening time) giving me the codes for the Prussian army, he also said if I wished he would make me up a Battle Pack Spanish army and I then I could order the battle Pack with the two armies.
This I have done. He then e-mailed two days later saying my order was in the post.
Fantastic customer service!

I have now completed mhy Napoleonic armies in 2mm. Already tried a couple of games which went well. Being a heretic I know, but play testing has shown that in my opinion the "2 x 2" rules designed for 2mm Napoleonics by Rod Humble give the best game compared to DBN which I have always used for my 20mm Napoleonic battles and which work well. Pictures can be found on my web page www.spanglefish.com/solitarywargamerUnder 2mm Napoleonics on the left hand menu.

Nice looking stuff Cromwell.
Do the 2 x 2 rules result in much differentiation between the different armies?
Cheers,
Geoff

Nice looking stuff Cromwell. Do the 2 x 2 rules result in much differentiation between the different armies? Cheers, Geoff In my opinion they do. Certain armies such as Russia field larger units but of lower quality for example, Prussia must field a certain number of Landwher battalions. I had to make up my own Spanish list as the 2x2 rules have no listing for them but I made a list up based on the DBN list. Basically they are lower quality than the others. I am now devising a mapless campaign. Details to follow!

Sounds like a great project. As shown by recent Youtube videos by the author, DBN works really well, even for solo games. This is confirmed by my own play experience using 1/300 figs. The modest requirements in figure numbers, small table size and short time needed for games all make DBN far better, IMHO, than slow rules needing casts of thousands and huge tables.

Hello Cromwell,
sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but would it be for you to post or even pm me your Napoleonic Spanish list for the 2x2 rules?
Tried to find them but no luck, just people saying the infantry would be classed as militia.
Regards
Mark W
