The first battle of the Wars of the Roses, that of Holdstock's Fields, is about to take place.
Warrick, for Edward IV, has set up in as best a defensive line as he can but faces the daunting approach of Stanley and Oxford being lead by Henry VI himself!
A lot of bows may go some way to denting the Lancastrian approach but when it comes to blows the Yorkists were far far out matched!
There was some fairly effective bow fire but Warrick is clearly having second thoughts as, based on a rule, he's done nothing all game just stood and watched while the Cornish Levy and Royal Armouries men do all the work. The Lancastrians pushed forward but became progressively disorganised, not least because the 3 different nobles refused to join into one big unit.
The battle ended in a very surprising way!
Warwick decided he couldn't be bothered to fight while there were poor people who could do the dying so took his men and buggered off.
"Well shit, we're screwed" thought the men of Cornwall and the Royal Armouries as the sun glinted off the armour of waves of Lancastrians coming to give the grief.
Yet it was not to be. Skirmishers on the left, a cannon and a unit of bowmen in the middle and blind hope holding the right the Yorkists were not only able to break up the attack but tear chunk out of the attacking bowmen.
The final nail in the coffin was when the cannon rolled a 6 to a unit of heavy foot knights' 1 and the attackers had had enough.
Yorkist surprise victory, Stanleys took 3/4 casualties and Warwick probably has some questions to answer.
Good times indeed.
(This is a summary I posted, with the odd picture, to a couple of groups on WhatsApp and Discord... it was only after I realised maybe a DBA forum might enjoy a summarised AAR of a DBA game lol)

Tom, have you considered posting your report, c/w photos, to the 2 DBA FB pages?
Cheers,

Tom, have you considered posting your report, c/w photos, to the 2 DBA FB pages? Cheers, To be honest I had not but that's mainly because I don't think I'm yet a member of either. When the next battle happens, hopefully tomorrow, I'll see if I can do just that thank you.

I am loving your conversion to DBA and am mighty pleased you are managing to get games in. Tis indeed a beautiful game and for such a simple thing it has amazing scope. Add in HoTT you can get pretty much anything played. I got far too many projects going on but Def want to return to my Ork and Imperial Guard epic scale HoTT forces. Anyway keep the reports coming I expect you tube battle reports before summer😀

By way of interest have you looked at the WotR specific rules "Test of Resolve"? I have tried them and they give a good game with loads of period flavour. Having said that DBA is still my main choice.

Tom, have you considered posting your report, c/w photos, to the 2 DBA FB pages? Cheers, Two FB groups? I found the "De Bellis Antiquitatus" one and am lurking there, but what's the other? "DBA & HOTT Wargaming"? I went cold turkey off FB a while ago, but DBA is dragging me back at least to keep a toe in to see what's up with the community there.

Very kind, it was fun to write but very dramatic to play. I was pretty sure the Yorkists were done for with the units of Blades and Bows coming at them but ranged fire, and a 6 vs 1 Artillery to Blades shot very much sealed the deal.
I haven't heard of them to be honest. What did you particularly like/feel they captured well?
The mini campaign I'm using is one that I found years ago written from I think DBA 2 or 2.1. It's simple but very effective and giving a fun campaign. I'm happy to send it on if you DM your email address.

Have you given up on the 'Paper' and 'Scissors' opponents for your HoTT Rock army? There are a surprising number of websites doing related products for that army. I would advise caution when looking for the rock element and avoid words like fist in any search engine.
