Fun Baldie, even if in age of telephone line for Russians and radios for Germans!! CarlL Mmm! I remember back in the 1990's when in the Police Service, here on Earth a man could talk to a man in space but, it was, apparent to your average Bobby that it was beyond the wit of man to be able to develop a communication device which enabled us to speak to a colleague a mile away. Conversations were usually along the lines of... "Lima10 do you receive?" Crackle fizz crackle " This is Lima FIZZ did FIZZ call CRACKLE over?" "If that's Lima 10, you sound like your heads in a bucket, suggest move position, over" "FIZZ Lima CRACKLE, is FIZZ that any CRACKLE over" "Not Really Lima 10 but keep a look out for a Red Ford Escort VRM S123ABC, Copy?" Lima 1 FIZZ, say again you CRACKLE broke up, Something about FIZZ Ford Escort, CRACKLE?" "Yes Lima 10 Ford Escort red S123ABC needs to be stopped, over" "Oh! It went Past about CRACKLE 1 min ago, over!" The cutting edge of crime fighting in the 1990's!

Has anyone tried the period specific War of the Roses rules “Test of Resolve”. I downloaded the PDF of the rules which are a bit pricy and bought the game cards required (a bit pricy also). I have played three battles now and I am very impressed. Play fast, loads of period flavour and being card driven great for solo play. Everything is resolved by rolling a D12 dice (which I also had to b get. works with all scales and is not dependant on basing or figure removal. I would be interested in the views of others.

Very nice! Let’s hope the British do not wipe the floor with them too quickly!

I've taken the plunge and painted my first Napoleonic armies. These are AB figures. Not sure how much further I'll take this project but wanted to try DBN and DBA-HX. If I like it, I'll paint more. But they are a bit painful with all the decoration and detail! One army was painted with acrylics and one almost completely with Speedpaints. Can you tell which is which? Cheers Jim Napolionics are fiddly to paint. Do what I did with Napolionics, go 2mm scale, then you don’t have to worry about getting the right shade for the cap badges! Your figures look great. I really enjoy DBN, I also use their suplement rules for War of the Spanish Succession, American civil war, both in 2mm and Colonials which I model in 10 mm.

Currently reading “The Fall of Carthage” by Adrian Goldsworthy. Very interesting and thought provoking.

Great idea except for the mirrors. If, as an ex navigator, I am using VFR peering down on a hot sunny day into a blanket of mirrors might have a detrimental effect on my vision I fear! Great for glider pilots mind you, with all those thermals,

Thank you, although in one instance removing the spammer has also erased the post from me which started the thread. Sorry about that, I saw “Spammer” and this red mist descended and I lost all control! I will endeavour to control myself in future. ”Nurse! The screens, bring the screens quickly!”

Great looking figures. This morning I played an ACW engagement using my 2mm armies. I used DBACW rules with a bit of adaptation for 2mm

I have been lucky enough to purchase Republican Roman and Carthaginian armies on eBay. Beautifully painted in 6mm each in its own wooden box. Each army has enough elements to make up all options for BBDBA.
So far I have played one BBDBA game which was great, looked good and played well.
Question. I noticed that the commands facing each other tended to face off to each other so in effect you had three mini DBA games going on, only towards the end did the flank commands of the victorious side (Roman) turn in towards the flanks.
My reading suggests that this was the case in many ancient and medieval battles and it was certainly the case in the English Civil Wars. Much of this must have been due to limited communication between commands as well as troop discipline.
Are my assumptions correct on this.

Does anyone play this?
I recently purchased a large Republican Roman and Carthaginian Armies in 6mm on eBay. They appear based for DBA and there are enough elements to fight BBDBA. Tried a game solo today and enjoyed it. Looks impressive and plays well.

I use DBN for Napoleonic, and the derivatives which can be found on the DBN web site to play Colonial, American civil War and the new one just out Seven Years War which I actually use for war of the Spanish Succession.
DBN I feel is the way to go for era's later than the renaissance.
