I've just finished reading A Great and Glorious Adventure by Gordon Corrigan. Lent to me by good friend Peter Spitz, it covers the period of the HYW. Nothing new, but a very readable account of the conflict from origins through to the final departure of English forces from continental Europe. I would certainly recommend it.

I'll be using this thread as a means of detailing the terrain I'll be constructing for the 10 scenarios, covering battles fought in Britain, that I'll be hosting at MOAB this year. The scenarios range from Watling St and end with Flodden.
First up, I've just completed an abandoned and ruined fort that will feature in the scenario for the Battle of Camelon. Images of the terrain piece can be seen on the 2 FB DBA pages.

Tuesday evening DBA, this time a clash between a Ptolemaic host and the Gallic tribes intent on invading the Greek world, which is never a wise idea. The Ptolemaic commander determined to offer battle near the coast where the battlefield was relatively open, except for a rocky hill and small town on the Gallic right. The late arrival of Ptolemaic reinforcements by sea proved initially to be something of a threat to the Gallic left, though the threat was quickly countered. Both armies then pressed forward with their centres, with the Gauls trying a series of complex manoeuvres that gained them little. Finally however the foot of both armies clashed. Much pushing resulted and under pressure the Gauls were pushed back repeatedly. Then a breakthrough was achieved by Gauls. Gallic warriors emboldened with success attacked with new vigour. However, with Greek reserves restoring the continuity of the Ptolemaic line the relentless advance of the Greek phalanx was renewed. Eventually the heroic Gauls broke having suffered horrific casualties. Another nice AAR Keith. I'd imagine that there were a lot of foreshortened lines. Cheers,

Truth be told, about 17 years ago when Canberra was threatened by serious bushfires and we were packing the car in case we had to evacuate I looked at the vast amount of lead and the huge number of books and decided that since I couldn't save them all and with all the rest of the activity couldn't spare the time to make a considered evaluation. I grabbed three books I hadn't read from the nearest bookcase in case I would be spending several nights in emergency accommodation and compartmentalised the problem. No doubt I would wept tears of blood if disaster did strike - but I was surprised about how coolly I made the decision at the time.
But should the situation arise where I could Southern Sung Chinese - my new Khurusan set Christian Nubian - another fave that has won me much silverware over the time Papal Italian - I will never get anyone to convert that litter again so I need to preserve it Konstantinian Byzantine - they were surprisingly powerful and I want to keep them Early Libyan - the b list AND I get to take their Sea People Allies (1xHCh, 2x3Bd) because you just have to love this army.
Cheers
Well - Not funny anymore
On Tuesday with the Ororral Valley fire only 17km from my house and Emergency Level alert called the elder of the (not so) little warbands and myself were assembling the goods to take and run. (Wf(X) and the younger (not so) little warband were in Sydney). I was in the midst of repacking my Cancon armies and when I put the Siamese away I couldn't stop myself from getting the Sung out, and they are sitting on the table until the fire danger has passed.
At midnight on Tuesday the alert level dropped to watch and act, and now it is down to Advice -
BUT - the forecasts for the next few days are very hot and dry. We are not safe yet.
Cheers folks
Stay safe David. Cheers,

Back in Armidale. I just want to echo the praises being lavished on the "Gang of Three" for their efforts in running a great tournament. Also, thanks to my opponents for providing excellent mental stimulation. And it was great playing 2 people that I haven't previosly met, Chris Humphreys and Kendall Blue.

How was yesterday, did you triumph? Played three games last Sunday against Stephen, an experienced DBA player.
In the first, his Med German foot knights (Blade) ploughed into the Western Sudanese bow with predictable results. Throwing my general into the melee didn't save the situation. A 2-5 loss.
In the second, Stephen was reluctant to advance his centre (Blade) into my centre (Blade and Bow) until both flanks were better positioned. The light horse and bow on my flanks took advantage of this, picking off units (mounted, crossbow and psiloi) as they advanced and re-positioned themselves. In a wild last turn Stephen's centre crashed into contact, there were combats everywhere, I managed to roll 4 consecutive sixes (lucky!!), and when the dust settled the Sudanese had achieved a 6-4 victory.
In the third we changed armies, Stephen fielding his Late Imperial Romans against my Early Philistines. The LIR advanced with a focus on keeping all their elements in a single line. The Philistines danced their centre and right flank to the right, and with an overlap their right flank warriors (fast blade and auxilia) fell on the open LIR left flank and proceeded to roll it up. A 4-1 victory to the Philistines.
It was good to play the games. I hadn't played DBA since October last year. The Western Sudanese certainly needed another hit out before CanCon. I was lucky in the second game, but die rolling is at the heart of DBA.
Peter, hopefully you haven't used up all of your 6s! See you Saturday. Cheers,

How far away are you from 1,000 subscribers Tony?
Perhaps some kind of "subscriber drive" is needed on this and other fourms, to just get you to 1,000 and that way you won't have to deal with so much editing and can focus on what you like to do.
263 short as of this time. Make sure you are subscribed. Tony, at CANCON, later this month, I'll be encouraging those DBA players who haven't subscribed to do so. Hopefully we'll achieve the 1000 subscribers threshold very soon. Cheers,

The final two elements of 4x4Bd for my WOTR army were completed yesterday. That means only the figures for Art element need to be cleaned up, undercoated and painted. Once that is done l can flock all 12 elements. Cheers, Today i completed figures for the Art element for my WOTR army, as well as the CF figures. Tomorrow I'll start the basing process using Tony Aguilar's basing method as demonstrated in his YouTube basing tutorial. Cheers, The WOTR Tudor army is now complete.
