I've just commenced working on the 3rd of 4 armies that I planned to complete this year. So, this time it's the Fatimids. The army's composition is 1x3Cv (G), 3x3Cv, 1xLH, 3x4Bd, 2xSp or 2x4Bw, 1x5Hd, 1xPs. The figures that I'm using could be best described as a can of baked beans: Heinz 47 varieties 🤣. Thus far I've cleaned up the 35 foot figures and mounted them on painting nails. I expect this to be a slow burn project that I'll attend to between non DBA modelling projects. Given that, I'll be posting updates on an irregular basis. That being said, I hope to apply primer to the Psiloi and Horde figures today. Cheers, Well, that was fast! I've painted the figures for the Horde and Psiloi, glued them to their bases, and applied goop. All I need to do now is to wait for the goop to dry, paint the texture and apply flocking and tufts. Next up should be the figures for the 2x4Bw elements. Cheers,

Tom, have you considered posting your report, c/w photos, to the 2 DBA FB pages? Cheers, Two FB groups? I found the "De Bellis Antiquitatus" one and am lurking there, but what's the other? "DBA & HOTT Wargaming"? I went cold turkey off FB a while ago, but DBA is dragging me back at least to keep a toe in to see what's up with the community there. Yes, "DBA and HOTT Wargaming". Cheers,

An early warning post to inform all that I will be running DBA at MOAB 2024. The dates for DBA are 5/10/24 to 6/10/24 inclusive. I wanted to give plenty of notice for this year's themes to allow enough time to organise armies.
Saturday's theme is "The Rise of the King of Kings: Armies and Enemies of the Early Achamenid Persians". Each player is to field a 12 element army that is either 1 of the 3 EAP armies or one of the approximately 27 enemies of the EAP, as listed in Book 1 of the rules. Enemies may field Allies, however, the Ally must be an enemy of the EAP.
Sunday's theme is "Meet the Millennials: Armies of the 1st Millennia, CE". Each player is to field a 12 element army that was active between the years 950 CE and 1050 CE. If Allies are used, they must be an Ally that was active in the theme's time frame. There are more than 80 armies that fit the criteria for this theme.
Once registrations are open I'll update this thread. So watch this space.
Cheers,

While waiting for my flight from Sydney to Armidale I thought that I would take the opportunity to report on how I fared at yesterday's Just Deserts tournament. So, metaphorically wearing my best sandals I ventured into the Goulburn Workers' Club to do battle with my II/23a Later Pre-Islamic Arabs (Nomad). The army consisted of 1xLH(G), 3xCm, 1xLH, 1xLCm, 3x4Bd, 2x3Bw and 1xPs.
First up was a civil war with another LPIA army commanded by Austin Kenny. Austin ran the Yemeni version, II/23c. After a thrilling battle I was able to prevail 4-3.
My 2nd game was against my nemesis from Saturday's practice games, with Mark fielding his Palmyrans, II/74a. Once again the Palmyrans were masterfully handled by Mark and I suffered a 2-4 defeat.
After lunch another LPIA civil war, this time II/23b (City with a Nomad ally). After a backwards and forwards tussle Brenton Searle defeated me 4-2.
Game 4 saw me go up against Charmaine Benfield. Charmaine was running III/31, Umayyad Arabs. With the game evenly balanced at 3-3, I was fortunate enough to snag another two kills. Another very engaging game.
The penultimate saw me opposed by Chris, fielding his II/54, Qaramita. With a maximum of number of Dunes deployed there was plenty of sand available to absorb spilt blood. Another tight game that went down to the wire with a 4-2 win for me.
The last game saw me come up against James Mallanack and his II/22c Hatrans. Another close game ensured with James taking the biscuits for a 4-2 win.
Overall, a 3-3 win loss ratio with which I'm happy about. Many thanks to all my opponents for great games played in the spirit we all appreciate. And many thanks to Mark for organising a great day of gaming.
Cheers,

Well seven wagons finished, just got to decide how to base / use them and how to populate them. I had already painted camp followers that could sit within six of the seven, but yet to base them. The seventh is more a 'trader' wagon so I am looking for a suitable figure and customers (perhaps some of my camp followers for customers). CarlL Check out the Baueda range for merchandise to stock your wagon. Cheers,

Over the long weekend here in Canberra I took the eldest of the (not so) little warbands to Sydney for the Ramses exhibition and to see the musical "& Juliet" That gave me plenty of reading time on the trains - to say nothing of said daughter is also keen on finding somewhere to sit with a cold drink and read for an hour or so. (We've been doing 'book dates' since she first learnt to read). I polished off "50 Weapons That Changed Warfare" before leaving Canberra and read much of Simon Scarrow's "The Honour of Rome" on the way up to Sydney, finishing it the following day. I then picked up his next offer in that series "Death to the Emperor", which I finished somewhere between Sydney and Mittagong. These books were quite good, but since they are dealing with the lead up to the Boudican revolt and the main characters are in the thick of it, we all know that it will end in tears (however he's strung this out so I'll need to get the next book {No. 22 in the overall series} to see it all play out). In Sydney I purchased "A Nasty Little War" by Anna Reid - a narrative account of the Western Intervention in the Russian Civil Wars. Starting that on the train now sees me just over 1/3 through and it is an excellent read. Cheers David, have you been to see the Ramses exhibition yet, or is it still to come?

Very productive David. I'd be interested in your thoughts on painting up the 3D printed Sea Peoples figures. Especially given that they don't have bases. Cheers, Well Greg - all in all the Chariot was an nice easy model to paint and while I had some issues getting the figures to stand up while I set them on the painting strips it all worked well The first strip of foot on the other hand - whilst overall working well I am concerned about 1) The fragility of some of the figures where there is only one foot on the ground, and even the two footed group might have a weak point at the ankles. 2) Lacking much foot surface area to glue them to the base. That said their poses are excellent and the detail is exquisite cheers The weakness of the ankle is also a major concern of mine. If I ever go down the 3D printed route I will only purchase figures with an integrated base. Cheers,

As I wait for my Donnington order of 2x4Pk to arrive to finish off the Attalid Pergamene, I’ve moved onto the II/75 Kaya Korean from Irregular Miniatures that I won for my second placing at last year’s Steel Warrior tournament. Irregular haven’t got a great rep in 15mm circles, but these are actually painting up pretty well 👍 P Paul, I used the Khurusan figures to cover all 3 Kingdom Korean armies. I'm very interested in seeing your take on the Koreans. Cheers,
