I've just finished watching Tony and Mitch's latest battle on YouTube. This time Western Patsys versus Feudal Spanish. Once again another interesting battle presented by the gamers from Gainesville. If you havent yet subscribed to Tony's YouTube channel, I urge you to do so. There is much DBA goodness to be found. Cheers Thanks, Greg. Note that there are a few errors in that video with regards to not having the wording on the description of the forces and the I where I had edited the part where I meant to say that the Spanish army is IV/68e, not IV/68c as in the video. All of these corrections were gone when I uploaded and all the work I did this part Saturday was in vain. See the description in the video as to all the drama I have gone through on this one which took two weeks and a new laptop to boot. I MAY go back and redo this video edit once I sort out a new video editor. Be patient folks, more videos coming but it will take some time as they will be taking a back seat to my current painting. No worries Tony. Hopefully you'll get to the magic number 1000 subscribers really soon so that you'll be able to YouTube live. Cheers,

Tuesday evening and time for the Gauls to face the Carthaginian invader. The Gallic commander selected a battlefield that he hoped would counter the Punic mounted superiority and deployed with his right resting on a large wood and his mounted mostly deployed on the left. The Carthaginians deployed opposite their right disrupted by a rocky hill and their left composed by a preponderance of light troops clearly set to pressure the Gallic right using their light infantry. The armies moved forward, both determined to bring the other to combat. However the Gauls reinforced their right and advancing rapidly with chariots and light infantry fell upon the Punic left with were dangerously exposed. Soon the Gallic centre crashed into the Punic centre itself advancing to reinforce the Punic left now dangerously compromised. The clash of Punic foot and Gallic warriors continued as progressively remaining portions of the lines were drawn in. The fighting now was desperate as shown in the photos above and below where the Gallic centre has been thinned by repeated clashes. After prolonged fighting, and heavy casualties, the Punic left finally succumbed to Gallic determination and was soon followed by collapse of the Punic centre when a final Gallic onslaught broke the cohesion of the Carthaginian veterans. Another fine game. In case anyone is wondering the pachyderm in the rear is masquerading as a camp. Nice to see another fine AAR Keith. Cheers,

I took a few days off and headed back to my ancestral home (Bendigo, Victoria) where I was able to catch up on a fair bit of reading. I finished 'Africa's World War' and then followed it up with 'Venice Noir' another of the Akaskic Noir series - short stories, and quite intriguing 'Zona Alfa' an Osprey Wargame based on the Russian fiction genre of operating in the Forbidden Zone in near future setting. Looks promising. 'The Looting Machine' by Tom Burgis another history of Modern Africa, but about the economic effects of "The Resource Curse" and less about the war. Very good. I got carried away in the moment a couple of weeks ago and went hunting on the web for two books in 'The Corps D'Elite' series - originally a French publication but these two along with a book on the Samurai that I picked up at a bookfair years ago have made it into English translations. (There are others but so far all searches suggest they are only available in French). I ordered 'The Foreign Legion' and 'The Afrika Korps' and both arrived recently. I am now partway through 'The Afrika Korps' Cheers David is your interest extending into the 20th century? Is there a new project in the offing? Cheers,

Paul, it could have been a very strong commitment to a radical New Year's resolution 😏. And likely a very foolish one. I mean, look at the make-up of its sole opponent: Seven Bow elements and Artillery. From my personal experience, most New Year's resolutions are 😉. Cheers,

Just finished the "b"version of the Emishi. ( 15mm Baueda) Is there a DBA army that have sub-lists that are any more different, one from another, than the all-foot, "a" version of the Emishi, and the (nearly) all-mounted, "b" version? January 1st of the year 700 must have been an amazing day on the island of Hokkaido. (Grins.) Paul, it could have been a very strong commitment to a radical New Year's resolution 😏. Cheers,

Some progress has been made for this project. Woods, Marshes, Rivers, Dunes and a Waterway are complete. I have constructed 10 80mmx40mm palisaded camps that only require painting, texturing and flocking to be completed. Once the camps are completed I'll post images on the 2 FB DBA groups. BTW it took 373 toothpicks, cut in half, to make 746 pieces that needed to be glued to supports to form the palisades. So what's left to do I hear you ask. A number of oversized Gentle and Difficult Hills, Roads, a couple of bridges and a fairly large representation of Lincoln.
Cheers,

With all the armies now complete for the DBA Northern cup 2021, bar some tidying up of bases on a few older elements, I'm turning my attention to preparation for the Northern Cup in 2024. I know, keen or what... Inspired by Kennedy's 'The Great Arab Conquests' and Crawford's 'The War of the Three Gods', the theme will be the middle east conflicts between 600-1000AD. As this is a period for which I have few current armies, it means buying and painting figures for 15 new armies and morphing the early Byzantines, Sassanids and Normans that I currently have for the other 5... oh, dear, better crack on! So, I've placed an order for a big batch of metal from a combination of Donnington, Essex, Lancashire Games and Old Glory (via Timecast), which should cover 4 of the Islamic Arab armies, the Later Pre-Islamic Arabs, the Thematic, Nikephorian and Konstantinian Byzantine armies and the conversions needed for the Sassanids and the Early Byzantines. This will allow me to build 11 of the 20 armies needed. I'm going to be one busy boy for the next four years ;-) P. Bugger me Paul! That's certainly a very tall order. Kudos to you for taking on such a huge project. Cheers,
