Have you seen the Sikh Wars range sold by Fighting 15s? They’re the old Gladiator Games figures and are really really nice. Geoff

I found the problem of the disappearing pictures. Like an idiot I had turned off the page! Now turned it on. Pictures are under "2mm Napoleonic Wars" Lo and behold - the images are now back!! Cheers, Geoff

Hi Cromwell; I went to your site to check out the 2mm figures you are doing, but I am not the sharpest tool in the shed, and could not find the pics. Can you point me to the right spot? Thanks! Yeah, I couldn’t find the images either. I am sure, however, that when I looked a few weeks ago (give or take, “time” seems to all merge now we’re in this COVID thing) that they were there then. Hmmm.... Geoff

Based on extensive research of episodes of The Simpsons, Tom & Jerry and old 1970’s British sitcoms I believe the “garden rake” should, for wargaming purposes, be counted as man-portable “caltrops” - an improvised defence especially effective against all mounted troop types.
Oh. And parents, sneaky cats and all pompous characters (teachers, parking wardens etc).

Yes, that’s my recollection too. Google images for English Civil War scythe men shows plenty of examples. I have used a scythe in my youth and it would certainly be an impractical weapon “as is”. Removing the blade and remounting onto a decent shaft would make a much more sensible and practical weapon. Geoff

Well if you organisers keep cancelling tournaments to keep us 'oldies' safe Paul, it does mean I get to keep the Northern Cup a bit longer! One lives in hope 😉 P Paul - I live in Sheffield. Hope is around 12-13 miles away (according to Google Maps). An old joke, but one I thought needed an airing... Take care & keep safe. Geoff

Caliver Books website says they have a copy (£30.00). I expect they would ship to the Netherlands.

Nice looking stuff Cromwell.
Do the 2 x 2 rules result in much differentiation between the different armies?
Cheers,
Geoff

Both 2mm Russian and French armies now painted. I will post photos on my web page a little later. Now ordering 2mm Austrian, Prussian and British Armies and the scenic pack from Irregular miniatures. I have played a trial battle using DBN and a trial using the 2 by 2 rules. I have to say the 2 by 2 rules really play well with 2mm figures. Jolly good. I’m looking forward to checking out your efforts. cheers, Geoff

Sounds good Cromwell.
Do you intend to use the standard DBN sized bases (with presumably multiple castings per DBN base)? Alternatively you might just reduce the size of the DBN base (say half width and depth?) and just play with the reduced base size and reduce the ranges accordingly?
What is the make up of the Irregular Miniatures battle packs? At that price it might be “worth a punt” as our American friends say.
I hope the project goes well and will keep an eye open for your progress.
Take care & keep safe,
Geoff

Geoff, I've looked into the Sicels and seen that they were probably Italian immigrants from the mainland. So it could be any mix of Italian or Greek armour, depending upon the historian's point of view. I've decided that they would be using Greek armour (influenced by Syracuse etc) where possible but not fighting in Greek formation due to their home terrain - hence the Ax designation. [Following the latest research I'd also suggest that early Republican Roman 'hoplites' should possibly be Ax as well.] Consequently, I've used some very old Mike's Models Greek hoplites. They aren't wearing the heavy bronze cuirass but some form of scale armour. Using modern figures, I'd probably opt for broadly the same type of figure: either a linen cuirass or just a tunic or a mix. As the troops you are looking at were mercenaries, I'd have a helmet as well. Although this may seem 'heavy' armour, don't forget that the Ax are based upon Roman auxilia with full armour! Thanks for the info Sonic. I was intending using Ancient & Modern figures - the old Donnington ranges - specifically the “Ancient Italian States” range and using figures with round shields, some armour and armed with a javelin/spear or two. Hopefully they’ll be about right (and, after all, who’s to say they aren’t). 😀 Thanks again, Geoff

Nearly finished a Sicel army. Just the Cv General to go ... Sonic - that’s a coincidence. I need some Sicels (an element of 3Ax for both the early Carthaginians I/61a and the Syracusans in Sicily II/9a). What figures have you used? Cheers, Geoff
