FWIW - a quick heads up. I’ve just noticed that eBay seller mrfootballer has a lot of Outpost miniatures for sale. I thought I’d mention it in case anyone needs any. 😉
I have no connection to the seller at all.
Cheers,
Geoff

As I mentioned earlier, I did start a thread on the Bacaudae/Bagaudae on the old Fanaticus site - but it now seems to have disappeared and I can’t find it with a Google search. TBH I don’t think it said much/anything that wasn’t mentioned on the subsequent thread on this site. You might want to check the Society of Ancients site too (SoA Forums) as there’s a fair bit of stuff about the Bacaudae/Bagaudae there. Geoff 🎅🏻😉

A query to the collective. Has anyone created a hypothetical army list for the Bagaudae? Starting in 284 AD, the uprising would rekindle and flare up for a century, drawing the attention of Aetius to suppress the revolt. Admittedly, there is little information, but looking at earlier uprisings, Sicilian and Italian Slave revolts and the Jewish Revolt, rebels might possibly be classed as 4Ax, 3Ax and Ps with additional 5/7Hd. Any thoughts? I recall starting a thread on the old Fanaticus site on this very subject. As you suggest, there is little information available and much of what we discussed was what people thought might be appropriate. In addition to your thoughts (above) I think there was some suggestion that there may well be a few disaffected “regular” troops too - retired veterans etc. I’m less certain whether the original thread mentioned Bagaudae or the alternative spelling of Bacaudae. In addition there was also a subsequent thread on the current Fanaticus site. I have done a quick search to see if my original Bacaudae thread is on the internet anywhere, but my technical skills leave a lot to be desired 😉 Good luck, Geoff

Does anyone know where I can buy a pot of tartan paint? I think I have a pot of tartan paint somewhere. I’ll have a look later. First though, do you want the checks to be horizontal or vertical? I seem to recall my tartan paint is vertical checks. Cheers, Geoff 🎅🏻🎄

You think part of the reason little written evidence exists is that many of them ended up as a smear of blood and smoke just in front of their own side? I certainly wouldnt like to have them line up behind my battle line. Aanyway now you have fone the eash work, which of their enemies do we get to see next? I agree - I wouldn’t fancy having these rocket guys behind me but, then again, having them deployed just in front of me would still be a worry. 😉 Geoff

elliesdad / Geoff, I think my firework throwers were probably among the lower castes and unlikely to own such fancy 'arm daggers' etc, although I did think they could be sword and buckler men (so wealthy enough to own a big sword) persuaded to risk losing a finger, hand or arm by throwing 'explosive' fireworks! Ultimately there is little in English language to tell us about these guys and their appearance, so if you find anything or can read something in sanskrit or an indigenous Indian language to tell us more then please share! My interpretation is a bit of fun, with big nod to yourself, Geoff, for helping me improve their look. The original Warrior Mins fig was bought in 1980s as a javelin man and part of what Warrior sold a 100 figure / piece ancients army for £25. Quids in for sure at my end. CarlL True - I suspect you are likely correct. Such “risky business” as throwing explosive fireworks would hardly be the job of the rich/upper classes. My research is only as superficial as having seen an image in an old Osprey book and read an article on Wikipedia. One useful book may be “A Military History of Medieval India” by Gurcharn Singh Sandhu but I can’t find my copy… I believe that Warrior Miniatures are still on hiatus, so whether they’ll ever re-start production isn’t known. A shame, as I could do with a few more 10mm sci-fi figures ☹️ Cheers, Geoff

Very nice. I also agree with Baldie that adding a blade to their arms would look great. I did try to add a picture of an Indian pata/patta (gauntlet sword) but unfortunately I wasn’t able to add the pic. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pata_(sword)Cheers, Geoff

An army-worth of Skythians, to make an attempt at Massagetae …I/43c, plus a few left over. Falcon Figures rarities, discovered at a trade stand at Warfare last weekend. A lucky find Martin. Is there any variety, or are the packs “single pose”? Cheers, Geoff

Wow - those rockets look dangerous 🧨 Perhaps it’s just the angle the photos were taken, but those guys throwing the rockets with red/black colouring all look like they’ve lost their left hands. 😉 Cheers, Geoff

Not read him for years, may get back into the book cases to dig him out. I do remember many bloody deaths and John Wick style lone warriors taking on all comers in desperate last stands. Having no kids I have promised some of my books to a chums two sons who have started yo show interest in war and plunder. I know i was reading Sben Hassle before i went to comp as i found them on my dad and uncles book case at my Nanan's. Never did me any harm, but not sure they will be appreciated as presents just yet. My dad fought in the war and used to read Sven Hassle, thank you for reminding me. I keep meaning to read one at least. When I was in Israel back in the late 80’s I remember finding some Sven Hassel books in a used book store. I was most surprised that anyone there would be interested in reading such matter. Second-hand bookshops are a rare thing these days ☹️ Cheers, Geoff

I remember this when it was originally on. I still have it on VHS somewhere I had a fair bit of “stuff” on VHS. However, with nothing to play ‘em on it seemed silly to hold onto the tapes. After about 5 years without a VHS player we just chucked them in the bin… Plenty of regret, sure - but it did free up an awful lot of space on the bookshelves. Cheers, Geoff

Started on a Norman Army from FiB but once I got the base coat on and block colours I lost the love. I was going with a Bayeux colour pallet and found I just wasn’t inspired! So I’ve fallen back on some Medievals just to raise my spirits and so have shelved the Normans in favour of the Lusignan Cypriots. At least they’ll have colour, heraldry and a ton load of flags. Why not use the Normans as basis for a Sicilian Norman army? 😉⚔️⚔️
