They do look like wonderful figures but keep in mind that the the listings say this about the figures:
"Please note that the models are larger 15s, similar to the size of Testudo 15mm. The small increase in size leads to much more room for detail and the models clearly show the benefit."
So they may not play well with other 15mm figures. That said... I'm considering making a matched set of armies - possibility in what I call EPIC scale - on 60mm bases.

I agree Nathan - just what I was thinking. Seperate elements of Pike and Shot don't work well in a 12 element army IMO. And if folks didn't want to rebase they could always just put an element of Pike behind an element of Shot and play it as a single element.

Horses first. I like painting them..... Shields last. Usually after much dithering about shield patterns and such. Working on Aztecs currently. No horses but LOTS of shield patterns.

I'm technology impaired and have never posted a picture before but I did manage to get this side view of the phalanx. Hope its helpful. Obviously it can only work with this Essex pike pose.

All the pikes were available due to a TACTICA Seleucid army painted some 25 years ago. That diaspora has allowed me to create many DBA armies.

Paul and I have been experimenting with Barrage rules. We don't play them like a HOTT God. We give the attacker 6 Barrage markers (seen above made out of clump foliage). He can place them next to barbed wire sections or troops after deployment but before the first turn. He then roles for each barrage hoping to remove wire or troops. Our simple simulation of a pre-attack barrage.

Khursan now has their new Jurchen Jin Dynasty 1115-1234 range available on their website. They look very nice.

Thanks all for the useful replies. At our DBA game night on Wednesday we were all "hyper aware" of the recoil choices. In a few situations it did indeed make a difference.

The rule for mounted recoiling is quite straightforward - "A recoiling mounted element can choose either to move 1BW or to move its own base depth if this is less than 1 BW". However Paul Hannah and I have been wondering what tactical/situational advantages others see in choosing either the 1BW recoil or a 30mm recoil (standard mounted BD). May be simple but it eludes us. Advice from others appreciated.

I just received an email from Nic at Eureka stating they have reached their goal and the range will become reality. I'm sure others who made a commitment have received similar emails. He is taking deposits now and expects to have the range available around May.

I received an email from Eureka today. Nic reports that they are at about 75% towards funding the project. They still need about $1,000 AUD in the next two weeks. So if anybody is still on the fence about ordering from the projected range now would be a great time to send Nic an email. Note that they will be closed from December 23rd to January 2nd but maybe his email could be full of the needed orders.

For me its all about the figures. Figures that inspire me to want to paint them will lead to me acquiring and army I otherwise might never notice. Along the same line figures that don't inspire me will prevent me from creating an army that I should want to have.

I just heard from Nic- he says they are now about 75% of the way to the goal. Next man up!

Thank you Paul for posting pictures - beyond my technical capacity at this point..... I big thank you to Robert for providing the inspiration for my new terrain. I spent much time on his web-site looking at the way he created cohesive terrain and aimed to copy it using my Cigar Box Battles terrain mats for color palate inspiration. I have started on "Arable" terrain to match the Cigar Box Green mat. To me quality terrain adds as much joy to playing DBA as do well painted armies. It really doesn't take that long to produce and adds so much eye-candy to the game.
