I know the original question was about historical armies being bad, but at the Steel Warriors event earlier this year, where people were encouraged to bring what they thought were the worst performing DBA armies, the results at the end, from worst performing to best, were:
Paionians Moorish Welsh + Saxon allies Macedonian E Successor Aitolian Paionian Libyan Nubian Sabir Huns Later Achaemenid Persian (I think this was from a limited supply of DBA armies)

But Simon, every post puts your thread back to the top of the list.
So to help that and at the risk of being called Cromwellian, here's a camel joke my Dad told me.
A baby camel was asking the mummy camel about it's body. Mummy, why do we have such long eye lashes? Well my baby, that's because when the wind blows up a sand storm it helps to keep the sand out of our eyes. Oh, but Mummy, why do we have such wide splayed out hooves? Well my baby, that's so that it makes it easier for us to walk across the soft sand as it helps distribute our weight. Oh but Mummy, why do we have this hump on our back? Well my baby, that's so that we can travel long distances across the desert without food or water? But mummy, in that case what are we doing here in Chester zoo?
A joke, (perhaps), some education and a maybe a thought about man's relationship to the animals?
The only other camel joke I know is the old one about the camel tie salesman, but I think I'd better leave that for another time!

The way the UK league is shaping up, this could be an interesting three way shootout between the Myers and Mr Finn for the 2023 title…and the dark horse, El Johnno, as last year’s winner is not out of the running yet either… 20 or more competitors would make this a big scoring comp. P Mathematically it's about as likely as a single Bw element defeating 2 solid pike! And don't forget Mr Pulley who has two more competitions to compete in.

Good, cos Gemma has advised that she was not happy with me playing on her birthday weekend. It's my birthday weekend as well, but I would have been quite happy to spend the time playing toy soldiers! However I'm equally happy to play the following weekend as well, so put me down also please Simon.

Don't think anything happens between the Kn and the second spear.
The Close Combat section on page 10 says you have to have a front edge in contact for close combat to occur. I think the general agreement has been that a corner is not an edge.

Someone has Egyptians from Essex so I went with Early Hebrews. I am not sure about their viability against the Egyptians without some divine intervention, but I am looking forward to seeing these models in the flesh. Having got a Hebrew army I can confirm it's a challenge to play with! The reliance on a lot of fast Ax combined with a high aggression factor of 3 is generally a great recipe for being stomped on in good going by any decent troop type. At least against the NKE your Ax can take on the Lch on equal terms and you have some Wb to threaten the Bd, plus their Bw could be a soft target? Alternatively if someone has some Assyrians and then you could combine with the Egyptians against them? At least that's semi historical, for Judah rebelled against Assyria during the reign of King Hezekiah in about 701 BC and the account of this rebellion, in the bible in 2 Kings 18, reveals that Judah appealed to Egypt for military aid during the conflict, though it didn't work out well as Egyptians were defeated. And of course it's all later than the Early Hebrew army.

Well done, sheffmark, completing your army. Any chance of posting a link here for non FB users / members? CarlL Er, not sure how to provide a link to anything other than the Facebook page but here that is: www.facebook.com/groups/382414395294162

Thanks for all the help. I've now finished the army, (for better or worse!) and have posted a picture on the DBA Facebook page. Should be an interesting army to play with! And a very fine looking army it is. Cheers Thanks

I agree with most of this, although I would query the following bit: " I've seen one who was on the flank of an army recoil down the entire width of the army and end up on the other flank." The last part of the PASSING OVER, UNDER OR THROUGH.... section on page 16 says: "When an element's maximum tactical move is insufficient to clear the base of an element it is passing through, under or over, it cannot pass. If you take it element by element then you could argue that the last element met would not have a frontage of 500 paces so the Magician could pass through. On the other hand you could argue that that if there isn't a gap within 500 paces of the first element to be recoiled through, then the Magician can't clear it and therefore it can't pass. If I were ruling on this I think I'd go with the later argument. That reference is to ‘tactical move’, wot uses PIPs, and not to an outcome move (which does not). Yep, good point. So that also means you can't stop a God from recoiling by placing an enemy behind it.
