Rob - Xyston Late Late Hoplite LBM transfers worked OK on Magister Militum Hoplite and Hypaspists figures. But all makes have big shields for these. Shield size varies more with the phalanx from the historically correct to the size of a Hoplon.
PM me the ask and I’ll see if I’ve got any spares.

Hmmmmm. Very tempting - one of my favourite periods! Depends on the eventual date and arrangements and I may be able to get there.
I can do 4 of the Armies now (Low Countries, Welsh, Swiss, HYW English) now and a 5th (German) won’t require much painting to field all the options plus I have figures for 3 more Armies (WOTR, Free Company, French) if I reprioritise my painting schedule.
No real killer army that I can see on the list - it seems to be a giant case of paper, sizzors, stone - or in this case knights/blade, longbow, pike! So could be the outliers that clinch it!
From what I see the WOTR Army lists may have an edge and sadly that is one of the ones in my unpainted mountain. Hmmmmmm!

Tony - that’s excellent. Go for it. I find your you tube videos inspirational. I just suppose I’m bit of a Luddite when it comes to social media. However, share the passion for painted lead! Paddy

Tony - no I don’t do facesnap or twitchat or whatever....my kids and wife waste enough time on those sites anyway so I don’t see why I should add more. At least it means my personal data is safe!

That pope on a wagon looks good. I can see how that was done. I think the way I’d start to tackle the pope is to use the RPE “Altar of Purifying Flame” as the base. www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/demonworldThis at least has mediaeval looking palanquin bearers that could be painted up as suitable papal body guards. It also has a suitably carpeted base. The banner probably still works but the priest and fire pit would hit the dead lead pile. I do like the idea of a converted Hungarian Horse archer as the man himself but the cthrone and canopy would have to be a scratch build - unless someone can point to a suitable model.

Yes - just checked back on that thread. Tony says they are “fabulous castings.” I must say I’d missed that originally.
Blue Moon do look very nice! Hate the packaging and p&p from USbut the models are right up there!

I do not think so, by Christmas I hope to have no 15mm ancients.

Thanks for sharing. What a good Papal Army at the link - very nice. l’ve been musing about that Army and how to do that Pope conversion too. Very brave to scratch build from a Hungarian archer. I’ve wondered whether the Xyston figure ANC20308 - Antigonas on Palanquin would be a good start point for a conversion or perhaps the Demonworld 4037 Nallian, Orc General on Palanquin. Obviously a lot of conversion work required either way!

You whimp! Where are the Cathaginians and the Romans? (And the Spanish, and Syracuse, and Greek Hoplites, and...well, when does the madness end?) Welcome to your friend! Joe Collins It never ends! Ain't it grand? Jim How many DBA Armies is “too many?” I currently have 19 - which can probably be used to make 35+ Amy lists. My wife thinks this is “too many.” I have 11 more in my unpainted mountain so aspire to have 30 - “too many?” But I have space for another 36 on my shelves - so space for about 55 Armies in total - will this be “too many?”

Welsh now painted, based and flocked. Photos to follow.
Next up is a HYW English Army for Crécy. This was already deflashed and prepped before the weekend but with the wife away for 2 days it came on leaps and bounds this weekend. I have managed to complete most of the block painting, most of the heradary, finished a bombard and am ready to start detailing. I’ve gone for a brown leather and red scheme for this Army - which is not as colourful as I normally choose - so hope this doesn’t impact my painting mojo.

It pays to build armies as matched pairs. Good luck. David Constable David - you are spot on with your advice - I just wish I could stick to it! I’ll buy and Army because I love it and also a matched pair. Then I’ll paint the Army I love and it’s matched pair goes onto the unpainted lead pile! My Teutonics have no Lithuanian or Mongol enemies. My Athenians can’t find a Spartan or Persian to fight. My Aztecs have no Conquistador enemies, my Crusaders have no Syrian enemies. My Seleucid have no Roman or Ptolemaic enemies! My Low Countries can’t find a Frenchie to fight! The only matched pairs I have are Alexander and Porus because I love both armies! So find a matched pair where you like both sides equally. Paddy
