Yup. Brass wire, clippers, a small hammer to flatten the end and files or Dremel to sharpen the tip.

Yup. Brass wire, clippers, a small hammer to flatten the end and files or Dremel to sharpen the tip. Or if you sharpen the wire to a point before thwacking with the hammer it usually produces a leaf-shaped spearpoint. I find it slightly easier that way. In 15mm scale I use 0.8mm brass rod, from railway model shops. Less bendy than some wire types.

We needf to be careful about admitting to sharp spears, pikes and lances or certain armies could be banned under Health & Safety legislation.

Simon has a point (excuse pun).
In the 1970s my 25mm Macedonian pike blocks actually used needles, they got changed to thin wire rapidly. The back three ranks were vertical. David Constable

I misspoke; it isn't daft, it's pointless.

I used to use Xyston but now just use florits wire clipped to size. I don't bother flattening or sharpening just paint on a metal tip.
My 28mm Bolshi types have the copper flattened head type for banners and lances and they are indeed deadly. Getting one down the fingernail wakes one up.

Paddy649, you should be working! I have had good use of xyston spears but without sending an order in they are sort of expensive at the very least I have FIASCO or Recon coming up and thought there might be someone who can sell me some there. Arcane scenery (never heard of) will send me some by post. Has anyone ever used them? Without the puns this time please.

Donnington has both rounded and flattened lances/spears in 40mm appropriate for 15mm figures. I've also bought from Black Hat and Northstar. Prices vary.
