I thinking of doing a Roman Army. I have Polybians on the painting table but they got stalled. However, I’ m thinking of getting either a Late Republican or Early Imperial Army....it is just one of those must haves in the collection.
I’ve never looked for Romans before and assumed that most manufacturers would do a range, but not so!
Can anyone recommend the best DBA ranges for Late Republican or Early Imperial Roman.

Paddy All my Roman armies (Polybian, Middle Imperial, Late Imperial) are Old Glory 15s. Due to their packaging all these grew to BBDBA size. If I were to collect a standard set of twelve, then Baueda would be my choice; auxiliary or allied troops are eight foot or four cavalry to a pack. Then there is War and Empire which have a good assortment of Early Imperial Roman. These are packed similar to Old Glory, but do match in size with Baueda. www.forgedinbattle.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=126_62

Early Imperial Rome go with Corvus Belli, great figs but not quite a full range anymore unfortunately.

So Baueda for Marian Romans. I tend to agree with that advice. My only concern with them is that they don’t make Numidian Elephants or bolt throwers. So which company matches Baueda best for those.
Corvus Belli for EIR. Can I stil get them? The Corvus Belli website seems to be full of Infinity stuff and nothing else!
Now I do like the FIB War and Empire figures. They are perhaps my favourite. My problem there is their packaging. I recon that even a basic EIR army without any options would need 5 packs at £55 and getting all the options would be twice that. I think I can justify FIB for Sarmations where it just needs 3 packs and some Generals - so £33 for an army but when I’d be paying twice that and discarding more figures than I use then I’m not convinced.

Paddy Old Glory 15s Carthaginian Elephant (CA4) could fit the bill. It is less expensive than the War and Empire model (WE-NU05)
Choice of artillery is dependent for which army it is to be used for. The one cubit ballistae (IR18) offered by Old Glory 15 is good for the Early Imperial Roman. A later Republican Roman army bolt shooter is offered by War and Empire (WE-RC4)

Paddy Totentanz Miniatures now has the right to CB's 15mm historical figures, but only some of the range is available from them. (They don't, for example produce the beautiful contatorium catafractari lancers for the Kn or anything that could plausibly be used for the LH.)

As John Cleese said in Life of Brian. "What have the Romans ever done of us?"

Being a North Briton living North of the wall and descended from Picts and Scots I've not had much liking for the Romans...but have on occassion been tempted to do a Roman ally contingent as part of an army I was considering building.I was interested in Galacian Legionaries as part of a Bd/Wb mix using Xyston Imitation Legionaries and also Buaeda Romans as allies of a Numidian army.
However,I would find it impressive if some Roman figures were depicted in capaign dress.

I think a lot of the figures depicting Romans, especially Early Imperial Romans, seem to have been designed with the Hollywood take on how Romans would have looked. My Early Imperial Roman Army is 20mm by Irregular Miniatures but when they are campaigning against my Ancient Britons I wonder how many Legionaries, especially those from the Mediterranean climes would want to be marching about Britain in short sleeve tunics with bare legs. Okay if it's the three weeks we call summer here in the UK but the rest of the time a few more layers would be appreciated I am sure.
