Thanks for response - appreciated. It was the column scenario that I was trying to refer to. Illustrations do assist. Believe query has been answered.
Dry January here too....

Dear All,
If there are two foot elements like Sp on 15mm deep bases or 3Ax on 20mm deep bases, and are in column, and they lose a frontal combat and have an enemy element with front edge contacts on one flank of both elements, then both are destroyed on a recoil for example.
Does the same happen if for example the two elements in column are Cv? In this case the frontal element is covered by it’s full 30mm flank side, but the element behind has only 10mm covered partially of it’s 30mm. In this case is the rear Cv element also destroyed on a recoil?
Thanks Peter

Paul - recollect the heavy foot ie pikes, spears and blades this happens with LH, so not advised to attack in double ranks unless some added tactical value, ie flank or rear contact on them.

This could be very easy - when considering combat outcome for LH v Bw, are the LH destroyed both from close combat and shooting when doubled? The comma after ‘.....artillery shooting(,) bows and psiloi .....’ threw me thinking that this was ‘artillery shooting, (bows and psiloi) in close combat...’
My Early Hungarians kept on getting mauled by various bow fire at the weekend at PAWs, and had not taken that into the pre event tactical thinking.
Maybe I should have read the rules more accurately.

Thanks to Bill for organising, and the good competition with an excellent group of people.
Did the Early Poles win through in the end?

Hi All,
Just did a quick check on Pompey fixtures, and they have a home game in the 2nd Dec v Northampton, and KO is at 12.30.
So could be longer queues coming into area and parking pressure. It more contingency in planning journey times to consider.

Hi there,
To note that I did purchase some of the Busch ploughed fields, cornfield, hedges and water sheets recently. Very impressed with the base products and the turnaround was quick and efficient.

Look very reasonable - innovative solution. Maybe a recommendation to Essex to Modify their Sub- Roman List?

Yes - this quite a challenge that starting to face with Pre Feudal Scots and Later North Welsh. It appears that trying to load with rough rather than difficult terrain works better.
The 3Pk can keep formation and off balance enemy mounted and solid foot, try and get to good going where they try and fight at some advantage. In rough they are also protected somewhat against English Kn where they cannot be destroyed by quick kill.

Hi Bob,
I love Essex Figures (also I am from said county). I had a similar issue with looking for a Sub-Roman Stathclyde Army (II/81d). Again the figures proposed were for the Spears a combination of Welsh and those Saxons you mentioned - did not feel right.
I put a thread on the Building Armies section recently.
Responders suggested those companies with specific lines like Splintered Light and even the Old Glory 15s and use a combination of the Slav and Rus spear figures.
Maybe the late roman auxiliary figures could work best with oval shield styles. Cannot think of any of the Dark Age related ones that I had purchased recently from Essex with Ovals.
That is one of the few issues with Essex, ie whilst the figures are good and decent value, and they try and cover all DBA 3.0 armies, there are some like Sub Roman, that they try and shoe horn not quite right figures into.....and maybe they should avoid trying to cover these ones?
