Great looking battles played on a nice looking board. What a pity there were no photos of the Celtiberians vs. the Gallic.
Next time I'll photograph the battle

Lazy painter? --Pshaw! You do great work that obviously involves careful, time-consuming effort, especially on all your terrific, hand-painted shield designs. Well done! Thank you, but I do use lazy techniques: quickshade and for the shields I use special pens (thin board markers)

2 battles against the Celtiberians this morning: 1 victory each, both hard won (3-4, both times)! Fast blades are fast (indeed) and reliable, but being fast they do not recoil 3Wb on ties, and suffer from the QK of Wb. Battles are hard for both sides...

2nd gameThis time the Gaulish tribes are defending their Celtic ground ! The cunning Gaul Chieftain choose a terrain which won't allow easy manouever for the Macedonian phalanx, with 2 woods... The Greek general is pretty confident after the last battle where the discipline of his phalanx drew the barbarians back in their smelly hutts ! Deployement a rather long approach, due to 1's for the Gaulish PIPs, and caution from the Macedonian general The bloody melee starts ! The Chieftain leads a glorious charge and punch a hole threw the Greek frontline With no second rank support, the disaster is complete for the Greeks 4 kills for the Gauls against 1 for the Macedonians, great Victory !!

Following the discussion and the question of Timurilank on 3Wb, we played 4 games involving my Gauls (II.11) fielding 3Wb, a 3Wb Gen and a various amont of Cv depending on the terrain. The two first games were against the Celtiberians (II.39b) and their 3Bd army, the two others against later macedonians (II.35). 4 nice games, with 2 gaulish victories ! I only took photos of the 2 games vs Macedonians 1st gamedeployement, Macedonians are the defenders The shock is approaching Yelling Gauls meet steady Macedonians The fast Gauls are flanking a phalanx... Destroying without mercy the bronze shields ! But the White Shields are pushing through, killing the Gaulish General ! The tribes being flanked, faltered and ran... 5 kills for Macedon (the genral counts double) against 2 for the gauls, Macedonian Victory !

Hi Antoine - great photos and interested in this period myself. Are these the Essex 28mm or 15mm figures. I was trying to work out the scale from the photos but failed. Thanks Peter Hi, the figures are mostly Essex apart from the Teutonic Knights (mirliton) and a few Xyston Gauls (cavalry). it is of course 15mm, the best scale for DBA in my opinion (and good for lazy painters like me ).

I played two games today (polybians vs gauls). Well, both were hard fought, one victory for each side (4-3 both battles). I usually play a Cv general for the Gauls and go for the full Cv option and it doesn't work that well... Today I opted for a 3Wb general and two 3Wb instead of Cv, and I really enjoyed it !! A Wb general have combat factor against foot of 4 and 5 with rear support, and a QK on Bd/Sp/Pk which is pretty efficient. Even knowing that my 3Wb recoil on ties with solid inf and do not force Cv to recoil on ties, I still prefer 3Wb and their 3BW movement.

I tend to win a lot of games against polybians with my celtiberians: the terrain is of my choosing and I can easily manoeuver through it ! Fast blades are good and easier to play (imho)

My Gauls are all 3Wb, they indeed recoil on ties with solid inf but they are faster and can make a better use of bad/rough going. I still don't have the sucess the german had
