I had a couple of battles of DBA 3.0 using my Later Macedonians. They were a lot of fun, and it was refreshing to see this army much more competitive than it was under DBA 2.2: The battle reports are here: link

Nice battle report and photos.
The Spartan list with phalanx, cavalry and bolt shooter caught my attention as well.

Thanks. The sunlight was a bit unforgiving in one direction, but phones have come a long way since I started my blog. The Spartans aren't a bad list at all, not like their monochrome earlier lists.

I've just written a report of the DBA day at the Auckland Wargames Club at the start of this month. You can read about it here.

Great report and photos.
Funny story about the marsh. Thanks; looks like I'll have to make some sort of rough going for my Arable armies.

I took the step several years back to build and box separate terrain for each of the geographical types. Somewhat extreme, but I also play DBA variants such as D3H2 (HOTT) and DBA-HX 3.0 (Horse and Musket) so terrain is now standard.

Great reports, The Pre-feudal Scots vs the Vikings is swaying me into adding some Aux to the armies.

Can they get Aux? Yes if your using 3.0. The Viking b list can have Norse Irish Allies allowing up to 3 Aux elements of mixed 4Aux and 3Aux depending on you preference The c list allows you up to 6x 3Aux instead of 4Bd if you take the Finns.

Ah, I thought you were talking about the Scots; the Vikings have always struck me as irremediably monochrome and only of use in historical match-ups. I totally agree, until 3.0 I avoided using my Vikings and opted for my Normans insteed. Now with the list expansions in 3.0 some armies not only have extra troop choices, but also have interesting allied choices. This is reflected in the Viking b list in offering an allied choice from the Pre-Feudal Scots,Norse Irish or Anglo-Danish lists offering 3 elements that may differ from the normal Viking choice. The c list now offers an Aux choice other than the usual Bd elements supported by Bw. Ok both armies are not the fastest, but are certainly able to compete in varying terrain.

I had my second BBDBA battle last Friday: linkNo pictures, but my newly painted Gauls took on Early Imperial Romans; they slaughtered one command of Romans, but fell apart against the other two. I've still got a lot to learn about BBDBA, and I hope to get another practice battle before I go to Christchurch in a couple weeks time.
