Mayhaps of interest: New York Military Affairs Symposium Upcoming Lecture Friday, April 1, 2022 7:00 PM The Sacred Band of Thebes: Three Hundred Theban Lovers Fighting to Save Greek Freedom Please Join Dr. James Romm, the James H. Ottaway Jr. Professor of Classics at Bard College, as he discusses his book: The Sacred Band: Three Hundred Theban Lovers Fighting for Greek Freedom, one of the most unique formations in military history. The story of the Sacred Band, an elite 300-man corps recruited from pairs of lovers, highlights a chaotic era of ancient Greek history, four decades marked by battles, ideological disputes, and the rise of vicious strongmen. At stake was freedom, democracy, and the fate of Thebes, at this time the leading power of the Greek world. Salutations, gentlefolk,
As I mentioned, am in process of putting together and painting up 28mm armies, generic 'Arab conquest' and 'NW European barbarian'. So, will need camps for them.
Suggestions on firms producing suitable 'camp followers', 'accessories', etc, etc, are welcome. (yes, much of what I seek is classed under 'fantasy' in catalogs.)
Thanks, very much

As I mentioned in 'Who's Buying What', have started on a "Mighty Morphn' Migratin' Men of ye Dark Ages", and an army of Arabs for opponents. Allah willing, will have first stand upglued by Feburary's end. Still arguing, 60mm or 80mm wide bases, with myself.

After some scrambled communications with the USPS, received my Russian-Orthodox-Christmas present to myself (actually requested delayed shipping so wouldn't get lost in December rush). 3 and 1/2 boxes, Gripping Beast 28mm plastics, now have nearly all figures for 'Dark Ages Morphable Generic Western European and Arab Armies'.
So, am aiming to paint Arabs and Visigoths, refight Battle of Guadelete, 711, by Historicon 2023 ...
With other stuf on workbench, won't bet whether 'twill be in 25 or 15, tho.
Anyway, purchased these figures from Joseph P. Kelly, who advertises as joes_shop@yahoo.com, in the 'For Sale' column of TheMiniaturesPage.com Have dealt with him several times, he's reliable and honest, recommended.

If you asked the crew who run Maplewood Hobby - or any other FLGS* - They'd probably say that it's the same amount of labor cost taking an item out of shipment from distributor, checking it against invoice, getting it onto shelf, and actually selling it - regardless of the selling price.
Meself, I've occasionally brought extra figures to sell at the Sunday morning 'no-charge-flea-market' at Historicon or Cold Wars, or the bring-and-buy at NJCon
OTOH, got really good deals on Corvus Belli DBA 2 army boxes at Fall In '19 (back in the Before Times)
Thought of getting a couple of packs of FiB at January sale, decided to whack away at current lead mountain. Next year .... Or ... "It's a free country." "Everybody's got the right to make an honest pound." "You pay your money, and you take your choice."

Salutations !
I Seem To Remember a post, recently, perhaps here, perhaps somewhere else on ye intertubes, report on painting up Alexandrian / Hellenistic Companions with white cloaks and ?
Remembered I have some Companions of me own, primed and waiting the brushs' caresses, thought I check that color scheme, sources thereof.
So if any of you gentlebeings could point me in the right direction, I'd be most grateful.
Best wishes for a Retroactive Happy Thanksgiving, and joyful celebrations of whatever winter holidays you celebrate, to all!

'Tis Thanksgiving here in ye US, I have much to be thankful for, not least that I'm still alive and kicking. Hope 'twas a happy day for you and yours.
Had a great time at Historicon/Fall In, saw lot of friends for first time in years, acquired a pile of 15mm Essex figures - Hellenistic phalangites and Tang Chinese, and some 28mm Arab horsemen, to fill in the ranks, and a big bag of Corvus Belli Imperial Romans, don't need more IR but 'twere irresistably cheap, may put some up for sale or trade...
First of the Wargame Factory Saxons is progressing along - I haven't assembled a 'hard plastic' kit in decades, getting used to working with styrene cement again.

Salutations, gentlepeople,
The first winter nor'easter whistles over New Jersey, reminding us when the window edges need to be taped up and the air conditioners covered...
This 'scramble' format sounds like fun - at least for the players. But for the organizers... Be there any 'layout sheets' or other ways - even, Ghod help us, software - to enable the folk running the show to keep track of everything ?
Thanks very much for any help you can give us with this.

J.P.Kelly - trades as 'Joe's Shop'* on The Miniatures Page's marketplace, had two boxes of the Wargames Factory** 'Saxon Fyrd' figures on sale, purchased them. Have been gradually picking up figures for an 11th Century Franks and Arabs 'matched pairs' to fight in Sicily, Spain, Palestine, Sussex...
At first exam, seem to be reasonably well-detailed. Smidgen smaller than Essex figures. Should at least fill out the back ranks of the infantry line.
Apologies no pictures lately. Various electronic stuf behavving badly
*Have bought several items from him, stuf as described, never any problems - highly recommended.
**Which seems to be defunct, darn

Salutations, gentlepeople !
Acquired some of the Wargames Factory 'Saxon Fyrd' plastic figures - hard plastic '28mm'. Wondered if you folk have techniques to 'roughen' the plastic surface, give it some 'tooth' for painting.
Tried soaking part of the sprue in white vinegar for a couple of days. No noticeable effect.
At this point, probably just going to wash off with Mr Clean solution, rinse, dry, and spray with flat tan. Suggestions for preferable treatment welcome !
Thanks very much
