To do, are two command elements and draco standards. The audio book Gregory of Tours played in the background.

Placed an order with TimeCast for more Dark Age types.
These will serve as levies/spearmen/auxilia for the Later Visigothic, Merovingian and Patrician Roman.

We have brought this in as a change to the DBF rules, currently in Beta phase of development P …no chance that the LH destruction might be intentional/realistic? A deep swarm of LH who, in Close Combat, are doubled might accurately represent the front part of the element attempting to flee in severe disorder and they and possibly others being killed in the crush/mayhem which ensues [??]…perhaps. I have a similar view as Martin. From Troop Definitions on page 3: Light Horse“They typically fought by sending a constant stream of small parties to gallop past shooting several times at close range, then return to rest or change ponies while others took their turn. Armies with large numbers of horse archers could form up very deep, increasing the frequency of exchange and the effect of shooting, but on a dusty confused battlefield they could make evading a charge risky”. Therefore, on a score of twice as many, the second LH element show contempt for the cowards fleeing by standing their ground and prepare to shoot.

Thanks for the terrain links. I'm also interested in how you paint the figures. Basic colors followed by a wash? My big stumbling block has always been how long I take to paint figures, and am always interested in considering a quicker method which looks good on a compatible table. I have come to realize that what I value is the overall effect, from normal viewing distance during a game. I mix colours, as I have only 18 pots, 9 of which are used frequently. From a white undercoat, I begin with a dark colour (breeches or tunic or shield) and later bring a lighter shade or a contrasting colour in thin brush strokes. Photo 4 of 6 illustrates this. dbagora.blogspot.com/2020/06/north-africa-and-sicily-9th-11th-century.html

This may be of interest to some. The presentations are well documented (viewed the Rus and Leidang videos) and illustrated. There are only 48 videos, but do cover lesser known ancient and medieval topics. www.youtube.com/@balticempire7244/videos

Currently painting Early Franks, and will serve as Merovingian with the addition of militia (Sp).
These past years, many armies have merged to create double size commands of 24 elements. The old collection of Franks becoming Goths and Vandals, hence the replacement.
The order arrived Friday and the weekend was spent preparing the 96 figures for painting. This took time as many figures had weapons in contact with their torsos. Careful cutting freed the spears, swords and axes making a lively looking group.

Has anyone picked up on I/43b Scythian or Hu having I/14b European Bronze Age as allies? I/43b 300-19 BC and 400 BC - 70 AD I/14b 1400-701 BC Surely an error? Is there a confirmed list of corrections buried within this thread? Yes, Stevie grouped the list of corrections on page 5.

After a long hiatus, I now have an over whelming urge to get back into DBA. (It probably has something to do with me recently watching the show Rome.) So, I have brainstorming about what armies to buy and build. And, I really like the idea of modeling the 10,000 lead by Xenophon from Anabasis. I’m just unsure what list to use to represent them. Maybe II/7 Later Achaemenid Persian for when they were under Cyrus until the battle of Cunaxa? After that I’m unsure which list to use. Welcome back to DBA. II/5J Overseas Mercenary expeditions.would seem a better choice. The enemy list fit the bill, Bithynian and Later Achaemenid Persian.

This afternoon I looked through the ‘bits and pieces’ box before ordering any Dark Age figures. The search proved profitable. Blue Moon Norman knights (personality pack), 6 pieces. Old Glory Breton cavalry, 3 pieces. Thistle and Rose cavalry, 8 pieces (will pass as Scots, Welsh or Slav) Blue Moon Germanic cavalry, 1 piece to complete an element. The 18 mounted will make 4 command elements and 2 cavalry. Cleaning and assembling weapons, shield and rider to mounts will begin tomorrow. The cavalry are done and now the basing. Flags will be made later today.
