I’m not going to turn to any 15mm figures until Army Painter release their SpeedPaint range in February, as I think these will help move my 15mm technique on a pace and eager to experiment here. Got Thracian, Illyrian and a Goth conversion project lined up for this, which should fill the middle of the year nicely 😆 P I'd be interested in your thoughts on the Speed Paint range Paul. Cheers, What I think they’ll do for me is do away with the need for washes on certain colours and leave me to go straight to the highlighting phase, thus saving time and effort. Here’s hoping… P

Here’s hoping… P I've been using Citadel's Contrast Paints with mixed results. It's my experience that some colours don't work as well as others. There's a certain amount of inconsistency which I'm hoping are not found in the Speed Paint range Paul. Cheers,

Cheers, I’ve watched several YouTube videos now on the Speed Paint range and they’ve drawn many positive comparisons with Contrast Paints. I’ve never tried the Citadel range but most of the videos endorse what you’re saying about them. Fortunately, Speed Paints don’t appear to have this issue 👍😎 P

the last year and a half has lead to my project for 2022: '4 eras of Rome and their enemies'. In this I've already begun in that I'm finishing my Gallic army and already have a Marian army that needs to be revamped.
Marian Roman and Gauls
EIR and British Celts
Late Imperial Roman and Franks
Sub-Roman Brits and Saxons

Must finish my 15mm Macedonians, the want to plough through 6mm DBN Russians and French. Obs all this could be blown out the water by the Irish and additional Vikings that er indoors got me for SAGA, they were talking to me in my sleep and convinced me to start prepping them at half four this morning. I am loving SAGA at moment, almost as much as DBA.

New projects? What I am doing now will certainly spill over into next year. Unpainted, I have only two DBA armies, each of two commands, but there are more refurbish projects of armies and terrain on the horizon. I updated my list of DBA armies and found a few had been overlooked. This was done primarily to determine what pieces might be needed for the new terrain mats. Ancient and medieval seem to be covered, but the gunpowder era and fantasy could use some attention. After the revised total, I don’t think I need another army.

We may not need another army Robert, but we always want at least one more 😱. Cheers,

Mine all involve (mostly)finishing things that I have bought over the years: Post-Mongol samurai for 'The Great Unwashed' in March. Canaanite just because trying to assemble chariots onto a 40mm base is good penance for any number of unspecified sins. Khmer and Maurikian Byzantine because they've been hanging around in my pile of shame forever. Early Germans (4Wb version)because I've finally figured out a colour scheme I like.
..but their is some new stuff: Maori for CANCON. Later Swiss (assuming I can get some more pikemen from Legio Heroica. I'm not optimistic)

Canaanite just because trying to assemble chariots onto a 40mm base is good penance for any number of unspecified sins. I still don't understand why the standard size for a 15mm chariot base is a 40x40 square, but the 25mm chariot base is a 60x80 rectangle.

I need to complete my Great Revolt Campaign set before February 2022 I still have four armies to go I/11a Akkadian and I/8a Saba are part done I still have the Elamites and Guti Great Revolt to go Cheers If you don't make the deadline, I can bring my Guti Great Revolt. Looks like I'll be taking you up on that offer Chaotic. The lead up to Xmas and then the break away to Victoria put my painting on hold. I managed to draw the maps last night and I expect that the Akkadians and Saba should be ready by the Feb Deadline. However the Guti are one of the early armies in the mix so will almost certainly be on the table in the first tranche. Elam and Saba are numbers 9 and 10 so should be okay for a time. I extended the play to the full 13 by adding a second Bedouin army. Cheers

In 20mm (60mm bases) finish my I/27 Early Hebrew and I/29a Early Philistine armies for both DBA and HotT. A link to where I've got to with them on my blogIn 15mm (40mm bases) put together my IV/56 Order of St John and IV/55b Ottoman 1362-1520 armies. I need to create terrain and strongholds for all of them too.

Our anual DBA-event this year will be again Hannibal, so i already have an army (again Syracuse). So my next 28mm project is Late Hungarians, i.e. the Black Army of Mathias Corvinus, as an enemy for my Habsburg army.

2021 was a good year for painting (bad for everything else) and I got 12 armies done: Order of St John, Samurai, Rajput, Hindu and Arab Indians, Nro-Assyrians, Arab Conquest, Spartans, Numidians, Parthians, Spanish and Gallic.
For 2022 Marian Romans are on the painting table. Then I’ll uplift the Gallic to Galatians and British. After that I’ll have a choice: Thracian, Later Archemenid Persian, Estonian and Prussian, Lithuanian, Papal, Viking, Norman, Ch’in, Toltec & Conquistador, Hungarian and Hussite.
No idea what I’ll choose first. The Toltec are the longest in the pile. LAP are the most colourful. Vikings probably the most powerful and Northern Crusades best from a campaign perspective.
However, I also have lots of Napoleonic Austrians to paint which need to be ready by November. So they’re probably the priority!

I have given up on 40mm deep bases for chariots, and all mine are now on 50mm and many are still a tight squeeze!
