I've watched Steve Dean's forum for many years and have appreciated his painting. I even managed to pick up a painted LH element for a late medieval army on ebay for an absolute bargain price. I can only assume that someone else bought it first and for some reason decided to sell it on. It has pride of place in my collection. Really great to see top notch painters like Steve and Alex sharing their work with the rest of us. I would never deride or belittle another person's painting - especially as I am no 'great shakes' myself, but the fact is that some people are just in another league when it come to brushwork.

I've finally managed to finish the Dacian army I have been putting off for years. The pictures don't include the sweat and frustration!!

A productive lunchtime today saw my Ming get 1x4Bd and 1xArt (the rocket launchers) and my Yi get 1x4Bw and 1xArt.
The Ming are now halfway to battle readiness and the Yi are one third of the way to the same. More importantly I have two of the three elements (Cv and Art) that would make up Yi allies for my Ming.
Cheers

Well done Haardrada. Got to love those Swiss!
I've got Polybian Romans and Thessalonian Greeks on the painting table - but I need to share photos of the Indians I painted a while ago.....
Question - am I allowed to use pretty shield designs using LBMS transfers on late Polybian Romans or is that anachronistic?

The cycle of projects, battles and such has now coming to a point where I can paint again.
There are a dozen elements of late medieval infantry on the table, primarily purchased for the Witcher project but very useful for a variety of Western European armies; 2 x mtd-4Lb, 6 x 4Lb and 4 x 7Hd. The latter can serve as Arriere-ban or feudal retainers, but in the Witcher World these are the P.F.I.

I forgot to mention the other finished product from yesterday. My northern Sung have another element of 8Cb completed. This army sprung from additional figures when I split my Sung into a North and South and padded it with spare figures (Mostly the Kennington range) are now just shy of 3x4Cb and 2x8Cb to be finished.
Of course I now have the new Khurusan figures and am champing at the bit to paint up NEW Sung armies with these beauties.
The disciplined me is putting this back until 1) My Rise of Islam campaign set it up to purple code - today I will start on the last few element of Blemye 2) The Old Sung armies are complete (I need to get some more Chinese Crossbows)
Cheers

I have just polished off two elements of LH for the Yi Dynasty Koreans - they are halfway to battle readiness
A quick check of the lists shows that the Yi are a third army that can have 3xArt with judicious choice of allies
I will have to look and see if there are any more
cheers

Forming a single line, these do look menacing.
The longbow and mounted longbow are next.

Not painting, but preparing a pack (8 miniatures) of Xyston celts. Nice miniatures, totally great. But the ammount of preparation work needed is preposterous. Not only do you have to glue on the shields, which is bad enough, but you seriously have to also drill holes into the hands that hold weapons and then glue a weapon (spears, provided by myself) into that hand. They will work fine with my Kappadokians (also Xyston), but I will try hard to avoid Xyston and other multipart miniatures in the future. Preparation takes as long as painting does...
(BTW, for gluing things on I use two-component epoxy glue. Everything that glues quickly also glues badly in my experience. And gaming pieces will be handled. Anyway, to keep things in place while the glue dries, I have found play-doh like modelling clay to work very well. It is very easy to handle and also is reusable).

I use bluetack which something simular to hold stuff in place until glue takes hold.Xyston are difficult figures to work with as the drilling out of hands is problomatic and time consuming..I had plenty of practice on Old Glory 25mm ECW Pikemen.😊
I used to use high viscosity super glue on the figures as it works well on metals but its only available from limited outlets.
