Thanks everyone for these reports! I wish I could see more of what was actually going on, but there's always next time. It did give me a kick and got me to think of painting more DBA armies (I mostly have armies for larger games, with DBA armies being subsets of these - and therefore fewer than I would like) and if possible to attend other tournaments.
