Blitzkrieg Commander 4 is an enjoyable set of rules.

I recently played a DBA24 game using 24 elements per side and one pip die. The single pip forces you to group most of your troops and use group moves. An enjoyable game & plan to do more. Using 21 elements per side with 9ne pip die should work the same way.

Need help on 2 situations. Does a column of infantry that is defending a frontal assault get a column bonus? If a front unit of a column is destroyed while assaulting, is the supporting unit destroyed also? Thank you in advance, RB This is how I understand the rules: 1. No, a defending column of infantry does not get the assault column bonus because it is stationary. See 7.5.2.3. A stationary column cannot get the bonus. 2. Yes, the supporting stand is destroyed if the combat result is "destroyed," not if as a result of recoiling. See 8.22

Knowing some Napoleonic buffs in the past, I would take this as a strong endorsement of the rules. The Napoleonic part plays fine, I just find them somewhat bland. Joe Collins I use HFG for Napoleonics & don't find them as bland as Joe does. You have to remember that in the game, elements represent brigades (battalion formations are irrelevant & effects are abstracted). The scale is in paces, also not abstracted like DBA. Unlike DBA, there are multiple different combat outcomes. Bayonet troops, for example, rout infantry if they score more in close combat. Firepower is in some ways not quite as deadly in HFG, though elements cannot close with the enemy unless they begin their move at effective small arms range (200p). This ensures elements must endure 2 bounds of distant shooting before they can close. Cavalry can potentially have more than one close combat in a turn, and can interpenetrate infantry in some instances. Overall, HFG is an interesting set of rules.

Strelnikov, how long does an average game last? Thanks, Paul. Paul, game length depends on how large your game is. I've found a small game (12 brigades per side) can take 2-3 hours, depending on your experience level with the rules & how you set up the battle. If the armies start further apart, the game takes longer. There are some subtle differences between DBA 3.0 & HFG which takes getting used to.

The original post suggests that HFG has been completed and published. Is that true? Seemed to me that it had just been forever in development. HFG version 1.1 is available on Lulu. Phil Barker is supposedly working on version 2.0, which takes HFG through to 1925.

Fantastic report and pictures.Thanks. The "Teddy Bear Fur" looks great. As you say it really gives the look of grasslands, and I imagine it could be used in smaller areas as flattened crops. Did the Teddy Bears put up much of a fight when you shaved them? Thanks. I'm not sure whether the fabric stores have to tie down the Teddy Bears when they shave them. Hopefully none were harmed!
