Lovely, lovely work!
The actual sculpts are bloody good too, I seem to have forgotten that, maybe because it was something like twenty years ago that I painted a Hunnic army for DBM and first heard the name Josef Ochmann.
Makes me want to paint a matched pair, just because it would look nice and it's always a pleasure to paint well sculpted figures.

Some sort of half-man half-turkey from an old D&D Monster Manual?

My experiences seem to have been similar to yours. A couple( maybe three or fourish) of years ago I did a mixture of LBMS transfers and hand painted shields for some ancient Italians. The transfers are pretty and have small intricate designs I can't replicate by hand, the draw back does seem to be the edge of the transfer. Though I new this would be a problem since I was using five(?) different manufacturers for figures with two different LBMS transfer sheets, one of which was not intended for any of the figures I was using. My only remedy was to do my best to disguise that edge as best I could with paint, some added difficulty for domed shields because I couldn't avoid wrinkling (as you mentioned) and the straw effect sucking up everything. So basically, don't know that there's much to be done other than trying to blend in that edge as best you can and avoid close up photos. *Forgot to mention, newer is better. Used some transfers years ago no problem, used them again last year and they were almost impossible to remove from the transparent face.

Liked it well enough, enough anyway to watch the next one to see how it ends. My money is on the Burgundians.
Of course this begs the question, who make the prettiest ones in 15mm?

Ahhh, to finish projects. A dream to some, a nightmare to others!

I wandered by this site two or three weeks ago and I seem to recall seeing an end date ( December) for the whole box and dice.
Sad, but since I haven't had a computer that'll run the game in like, forever, maybe not as sad as it should be.

Are Essex and Forged in Battle compatible, anybody? Generally, I couldn't say. Specifically, for the examples that I have Forged in Battle Oscans, Celts and Spanish go well (size wise) with their Essex and Old Glory counterparts. That Essex Etruscan is a bit shorter and stouter than others in that range. The Forged in Battle Etruscans that I have are a bit bigger, more in line with the older Xyston Greeks.

Of course the 'best paints' are the ones your accustomed to and have spent years getting a measure of their usefulness and effects.
This thread did prompt me to look at an old bottle of almost finished Spartan Red on my paint merry go round though, 36ml! How the ancients managed to construct vessels to hold such a proportions is beyond me and obviously beyond the makers of hobby paints.

The thing this thread needs is more photos. Come on guys show us your work. Hallelujah, preach it Brother! I posted this (a little dark I'm afraid) on Lead Adventure Forum because it was easy to do and cost me nothing but time. This had always been my favourite thread on Fanaticus, it used to be a draw to the site(s) all by itself. Sadly it's become a bit of a wasteland for bright colours and shiny new things. I blame Photobucket, I used to post photos of everything worth seeing whenever I finished it. Now it's a nasty toilet of a site (Photobucket that is) I don't want to go near and the hassle of finding something else is on the to do list that fell down the back of the couch. *Never had any reason to use FB in the past and in more recent times 'reasons' is more distaste and the miasma about the whole organisation.

I batch paint for the masses but do leader/ Hero types (mainly fantasy) individually, which includes Elephants and massive four horse chariots that seem to require inordinate amounts of time and attention.. The problem I find with batch painting is that not much progress seems to be made til right near the end which can discourage. I'm very bad at finishing projects. I do find that painting the face and all the flesh to almost done helps, a bit. Almost seems like once they have some recognizably human features they gain a little personality, it feels like a step has been taken and makes it easier for the next. A bit like putting the eyes in an Easter Island statue. There all inanimate, but some are less inanimate than others.

An illuminating discussion on the ins and outs of hard flanking and soft flanking. I'm pretty sure they make a pill for this.
