Just been browsing the Donnington site and found that they have a new (well new to me anyway) and very comprehensive range of Islamic army figures in 15mm. Haven't seen them 'in the flesh' so to speak but there are pics of every code and they do look very nice. Also saw that, in their camps range they do a Zoroastrian fire temple which, despite it's name, looks like it would be just right for a camp or BUA or edifice for several armies from the near east/middle east.

Welcome to the forum, hope you find it useful and entertaining. Re shield patterns, try looking on the Victrix Miniatures site and click on Flags and Transfers. You can then click on Carthage (or it might be Carthaginian). You'll find several designs for circular shields. These are all meant for 28mm figures but, judging by your painting (which is of a very good standard in my opinion), you'll probably be able to simplify some of the designs so that they fit onto 15mm figures.

Just saw another report on the bushfires sweeping parts of Australia. Thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones and I hope that all our Australian players are safe.

I've been following the short photo articles about recent Collision Course competition on the DBA/HOTT fb page. Anyone know how to get a copy of the rules?

Stevie, many thanks. I hate the littoral landing rules as much as you. I've been caught out by them more than once and used them to devastate an opponent twice recently. I'd much rather the littoral landing was banned for competition games; after all, some competitions restrict dismounting so why not do the same for littoral landings.

For anyone interested, the next scheduled event at the Bennet Centre (formerly St John's church hall) in Frome will be on 7 Sep. Two of the regular DBA 'gang' will be there. I will be absent - going to Colours show that day. The centre is usually open from 9:30 to 17:30.

Martin, thanks for reminding me about Colours. I had not realised that it clashed with Frome. I'll almost certainly be going to Colours especially now that I've given up on Warfare in Reading - too far in the winter gloom and not much more as regards traders. I'll check with the Frome DBAers and let you know.
Regards
Steve

Colin is right, the Frome sessions are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month and the hall is usually open from 9:30. I'll post a reminder nearer the time for the September meeting. There is sometimes space for one or two cars to park free on site but you'd need to get there very early to get in. There is a large shoppers car park within a few minutes walk - albeit up a short but very steep slope - which costs £5.90 for an all day ticket. I'll see if I can find out how much it costs for parking less than a day. There is a small car park adjacent to the site but that is only for short stays of up to 3 hours. If you can't get a space on site then what I do is to park in the adjacent car park and quickly unload my stuff into the hall - takes about 2 minutes - then move the car to the shoppers car park. This save lugging heavy boxes of figures/terrain up that steep slope. Tea and coffee are free on site and I think that there is a microwave oven you can use. There is easy access to Frome town centre where there are quite a few places to buy sandwiches, pies, pasties etc. If memory serves, there are at least four 2ftx2ft boards available - but I'll check to confirm. All are welcome. No admission charge. For those into scale models there is an excellent shop, again up a steep slope - within about a 5-10 minute walk. Search for Frome Model Centre and you should be able to access the website.

Martin, you are right. I'll be there (my 'local' club, albeit about 40+ miles away) as will Ian and possibly some others. There is a large pay and display car park within a few minutes walk of the centre - which used to be known as St John's Church Hall. Boards are available. The venue is a within a few minutes walk of Frome town centre where there are plenty of places to buy food and drink; coffee and tea is available on site for free. There is no entry charge, mainly because several members of the Frome club have donated their time free to help with the renovation of the centre.

Allies

So far, I've never used allies but now I am thinking of doing so and would appreciate some advice. Specifically, can a couple of elements from an ally line up side by side with a couple of elements of the main army or must allied elements be separate at all times? For example, Tang army III39 can have 2 x 3Bw and they can have a Central Asian Turkish ally (III11a) which can provide another 2 x 3Bw. Can the Tang 3Bw and the CAT 3Bw form a continuous line of 4? If so then, assuming the rules on range and arc are met, can a CAT bow support the fire of a Tang bow or must they shoot separately? For clarity, I am aware that, even if all these bow elements form a continuous line, they cannot move as a group.

Many years ago I ran a DBA campaign. Set in the time of Alexander's successors, there were more countries than players and a number of the players were new to the rules. If a player invaded a country which was not allocated to another player then I took the role of the defender and limited myself to only 9 elements when facing newbes. The worked reasonably well. I didn't win many battles but that was OK by me because I regarded it mainly as a learning exercise for the newcomers.

If you join the SoA can you get Slingshot in downloadable form, eg as a PDF, or is it only available in hard copy. I ask because I'd like to join the SoA but have no room to store magazines.
