Looking ahead to dates for Alton Matched Pairs. I note that Salute is 18th April, so am suggesting that, subject to availability of the hall, I may go with either....
4th April
or
11th April
Any comments/thoughts/advice on clashes welcome.
Martin

Martin The 4th April is the day before Palm Sunday; the 11th April will be over the Easter weekend. I think the former would be better than the latter for timing.

Can do either - count me in. 4 April is my first weekend of retirement - start as I mean to go on!

Problem is, I have a memory like a seive, and frequently forget the wise words of advice I’ve been given. 4th April sounding likely (bet that clashes with the SoA Battleday).

I’ll be there whatever the date Martin. Is Easter significant for the church hall then? Think I’ll bring a pair of Littoral armies ‘cos it sounds like fun 😀 Craig

Date now confirmed, and same venue as before. Minor price increase for players (£6, £3 juniors). Please can potential players advise if they plan to attend?
ALTON DBA MATCHED PAIRS, 2020 (a Society of Ancients UK DBA League event)
** Saturday 4th April 2020, 10:00-17:00. **
Register from 0930 for a prompt start before 10:15, please.
Venue ALL SAINTS CHURCH HALL , 4, QUEENS ROAD, ALTON , HANTS , GU34 1HU.
(Location - Behind Alton Registry Office, opposite BP petrol station, behind All Saints Church, approx 15 mins walk from Alton railway station).
Format = “Matched Pairs”
Each player brings a matched pair of DBA armies from the DBA v3 lists, preferably historical adversaries.
On alternating rounds the player will be using his own or his opponent’s pair. The player who is using his opponent’s pair of armies chooses which of the pair to play with. With 6 rounds planned, this will mean 3 games will be with your own pair, 3 with various opponents’ pairs.
Match-ups will be random, not swiss Chess or knockout. All players should get 6 games, and organiser will try to avoid match-ups between fellow club members etc., if requested.
2ft boards will be supplied. Please bring own terrain, camp, rules etc. and spare boards if possible. Rules for use of larger boards will be finalised nearer the date.
Note:- The organiser will endeavour to supply spare armies or pairs for those unable to bring a pair (Please give notice as far in advance as possible and I’ll do what I can).
Cost will be £6 per player, £3 for 16 years and under.
PRIZES include one or two painted DBA armies. (TBC)
To register interest or request loan armies, please contact Martin Smith on
07981 221687 or 01420 84734
Please register interest on this thread, to give some idea of numbers

I certainly hope to make this one - and not just because it will spur me to get some painting done.
