And today the Sassanids received their 4Kn General
I am hoping to have a new Sassanid (c list) army made up before my campaign finishes this year, or at the very least have the 12 fighting elements done in time for them to grace the table for the campaign.
Cheers

The 13 elements of Nubian are painted and ground work is currently being done. Unfortunately, I must await a shipment of Leadbear’s tufts to complete the bases.
While waiting for the tufts I have the Hyksos and an Egyptian command to do. Photos and a write up will follow in a week or two.

Will do I took on the Zanj Revolt with Ming Chinese and Yi Dynasty Korean Allies in the week leading up to Cancon The Zanj player (Gary Moriarty) has the goods over me in general and that game was no exception. He put down a fort (garrisoned by 4Bd) and some woods - and declined to stage a landing. I cracked open the fort with my Artillery Park (2xMing and 1xYi) but was unable to get a force through the gates of the fort before he could put a TZ on the gate stopping me. His archers occupied a wood on the left wing and I tried to ride them down with Korean Cv when he stuck their necks out but failed to get the quick kill. The battle see-sawed but eventually I lost the four elements. I will get a better report when my one Zanj hit the table. Cheers

I managed a bit of painting over the weekend which saw the Arab Conquest get 2x4Bd and 1x4Cm//4Bd whilst the Zanj Revolt had their 4Bd and 3Bd generals finished.
I run my painting projects out of three boxes 1) Underway 2) Undercoated 3) Prepped and glued to cardboard strips
In each of those three drawers there would be three separate armies - each with a strip of mounted and a strip of foot. As one or other category (mounted or foot) evaporates I usually throw in a strip of odds and sods - the catchup in making armies up to full strength either because I never had all options OR more recently with DBA3 and the vast project to bring up my collection to purple compliance.
As a strip in the underway box is completed it is replaced by it's counterpart in the Undercoated box. I usually restock the Prepped box each weekend.
At the moment with my Rise of Islam campaign about to start I am madly trying to bring all 10 armies up to full purple compliance - thus far I have completed II/23a Pre Islamic Arab (Nomad) II/23b Pre Islamic Arab (City) II/23c Pre Islamic Arab (Yemen) II/55b Blemmye, Nobades or Beja III/17 Maurikian Byzantine II/62a Abbysinian & Horn of Africa
II/69c Sassanid Persian - I have enough figures from my II/69b list to make this up for the campaign while I am painting a new army III/12 Christian Nubian - needs 2x4Ax and 1x7Hd to complete III/25a Arab Conquest needs 5x4Bd to complete III/16 Khazar Khaganate needs 2xLH, 5xCv and 1xSp to complete
To keep this on track I have one foot and one mounted strip reserved for the three armies I am bringing up to code, leaving two armies as projects * II/69c Sassanid Persian * III/50 Zanj Revolt
This week when the last of the Zanj Revolt passed into the Undercoated box and the last element of Sassanid foot moved into the same area I have added two new projects to the prepped box * II/42b Tamil - this is a scrap build project and thus far all of the mounted (3xEl, 1xCv) and the Blades have already been built or taken from already painted surplus elements. The remainder of the army is taking the place of Sassanid foot. * III/76 Konstantinian Byzantine - I built up the two General elements (CP and Cv), a Ps and a Cv from existing figures (although I had to paint up the General Figures) way back in 2016 - and now the first strips of foot and mounted are in the prepped box.
Cheers

Thirteen elements of Hyksos, including a camp guard, have been cleaned and undercoated. Painting them will start tomorrow, but I am not sure about painting the vertical stripes as illustrated. These I believe would be emissaries decked out in their best attire presenting tribute to the great one. I am thinking about giving the troops some trimming using a theme colour and add variation on their white linen kilts for the ‘retainers’ (3Bd).
The auxiliaries (3Ax) and skirmishers (Ps) are for the most part Bedouin mercenaries so these will have the same trim colour on their earth coloured kilts.

Tremble in fear as the Sassanid Command Position is now painted.
After the epic fight between the My Ming Chinese Army and Battledamage's Papal Italian I have developed a new healthy respect for the CP/Lit/CWg element

And today the penultimate Zanj elements were finished.
1x4Bd and 1x3Bd rolled off the line leaving just the Art to go.
The 2x4Ax for the Christian Nubians were also close to finished leaving just the 7Hd to bring them up to code.
Cheers

Today I've undercoated enough figures for 3x3Kn elements for my Late Swiss army. Once these are painted there only remains the optional 6Kn element to paint.

Well, went ahead and finished up the 6 4AX for the Republicans.
Doing the touchup on the Norman/Anglo-Norman/Early Crusader additions - 5xKN generals, a KN, 6x4CB, 9x3BW, a CB PS, 2x4BD, 2xSP, a 4BD command element, and 3x5HD.
Also 3xPS for my Ottonians. Speaking of which, I wasn't thinking when I decided to do 3 KN generals for the Early Crusader - I already had 4 KN generals with the Ottonians - one of them could have gone on Crusade.
With these I am still a few elements short of being able to field the three BBDBA armies with all options or without borrowing some elements from say the Ottonians, but getting close.
Now it's quick wrapup for the 7x3BW and 3xLH generals for the Republican Indians.
I have started the Nubains, but put them on hold waiting to see of OG15 sends me some archers and javelinmen to replace the damaged ones that I got in the recent order.
About time to break out the varnish...
