It is difficult to comment on this suggestion in isolation. Do the current LH types which would become raiders keep their QK against Kn and El? What are the combat factors for the new type and do they - or at least some of them - get rear support? Crucially, are they penalized in close combat in Bad Going? (I assume not.)
My initial reaction is that raiding and plundering are different from the set piece battles of DBA. I think too that the new raider cavalry, treating the battle field as a bowling green, would unbalance the game.

...what means section 3? must be DBA or not??? And although many of us, myself included, still talk about Book I armies, Book II armies etc, the rules actually have them listed as Sections I - IV.

If it is the one from years ago it is great, I remember thinking how easy would it be yo follow his footsteps in the current world? Lots of talk of the Devil Alexander. I do find it interesting that some great warrior leaders have solidly built up a vast empire built on glorious victories. Whilst other dictators have cruelly pillaged their way through their neighbour's inflicting genocide on all they meet. Not bad for 07:00 Even when the series was being made in the 1990s, it wasn't that easy. Michael Wood was "strongly advised" not to go to Iraq as some of his comments about, I think, the treatment of the Marsh Arabs had upset Saddam Hussein. He took the advice.

One of my Christmas presents was the DVD of Michael Wood's "In the Footsteps of Alexander". I haven't watched it yet, but it will be interesting to see how well it has aged since it first aired. (Watching one of Michael Wood's original "In search of..." programmes - possibly the one on Athelstan - after a gap of forty years was a bit of a shock.) I have it on VHS, I need to get the DVD version. He is such a wonderful story teller though - I think it still holds up. It's about a fiver on Amazon at the moment.

Another sad note to add. I saw on ‘The Keep Wargaming’ website that Paul Bailey is in hospital after a stroke. Nice people that I’ve bought a fair amount from over the years. K Yes, that is sad news indeed.

............ My army was the early Blemmye of Nubia. This is a desert army that looks longingly across the Red sea at its Arabian neighbours because they have already invented the camel - but does not do so itself until a century or so after the tournament's end date of 0 AD. Even so they field a nice combination of cavalry, spears, fast bow and fast auxiliaries. Their poor results (W1D2L3) can be blamed neither on the army nor the dice but on the skills of enemy commanders and the mistakes of their own. Among other things, another time I'd take different terrain (fewer dunes) and do more to avoid my troops getting out of command range. .............. Paul H Which is my current painting project (and which may succumb to exactly the problem you describe). I haven't gone for all the options, as I don't think I'd ever want to field six 3Ax; similarly two Ps should be ample for my needs. I am using figures from Alternative Armies. Which company did you use?

Now added to the league as ‘Bucklebury Bash’… let me know if you want a name change, Diades! P Perhaps Bucklebury Bound? Although I suspect most people here are too young to remember the cartoon character Huckleberry Hound.
