I was a bit busy yesterday and it wasn't until this afternoon that I remembered that yesterday marked a year since the last posting on the Legio Heroica website.

...it is not only Legio Heroica, there is also Outpost wargaming service... Yes, for the last 12 months the OWS website had been reduced to the message re Jeff's health, but now the site has gone entirely. Tough times for Jeff and his family. Hope he wins his battle.

At first I thought the post title was a vague reference to the Fall of Constantinople - 29 May 1453.
By pure coincidence (surely, unless they had planned the exact date of the show well ahead of time) one of the rounds on the series final of University Challenge on Monday 29 May here in the UK was to identify battles from a large scale map, a ⚔️ at the site of the battle and a year date. Yes, 1453 was indeed the Fall of Constantinople. Whether it was synchronicity or just astute planning by the BBC I don’t know.
Cheers,
Geoff

And to Kai Weaver of Falcon Miniatures, Allain Toullier of France, the owner of the Navwar molds for Roundway and Naismith (see Hour of Wolves and Shattered Shields website to see how wonderful these were,).

Re Alain Touller - another sad loss. I only have a few of his Huns, but whenever I saw his figures in other peoples' armies, I thought they were very good, and definitely worth getting.
This thread reminds me of another I saw some years ago that reminded miniature collectors that the supply of figurines they take for granted, like their sculptors and store owners, will *NOT* always be around.

A sad note to add to this memorial is for Jeff Bevan of Outpost Wargames Services who passed away in April.😥 Great loss It is such a shame as Outpost miniature ranges filled a void in availability for several Asian armies and we're reasonably priced. The Sui/Tang Cavalry for instance could be used for several steppe armies from 300AD-900AD. And the Burmese,Tamil and Khmer could cover several Thai and Indonesian armies too.

I remember Jeff's message about the double-whammy that hit him health-wise, and thinking what a terrible deal it was.
Jeff was always really helpful, and a lovely person to deal with.
(Ditto on the usefulness of the Sui/Tang ranges mentioned above; my last order from Outpost was ironically for some of the Sui range to use as Northern Wei, with some sculpting conversions that I've mostly completed.)
Wow. He was one of the good ones. Thanks Jeff. Happy gaming in the stars.

If you are really old you remember a time when Airfix ACW and Red indians were converted into ancients. A time when Airfix Romans and Ancient British were the only available figures, apart from flats, and the Airfix magazine did a loveley set of articles on conversions.
So much has gone, but a lot has been added. The people from the late 60s are dying off, or no longer able to carry on, they will be missed.

David Constable Too true David, I remember the change to 25mm Metal armies of Hinchcliffe,Greenwood & Ball(Garrison) and Minifig and then the swap to 15mm....it seems so long ago.
