There is a new 6 part docu-series on Alexander just started on Alexander. Don't shoot the messenger as I haven't watched it yet.

One of my Christmas presents was the DVD of Michael Wood's "In the Footsteps of Alexander". I haven't watched it yet, but it will be interesting to see how well it has aged since it first aired. (Watching one of Michael Wood's original "In search of..." programmes - possibly the one on Athelstan - after a gap of forty years was a bit of a shock.)

I have it on VHS, I need to get the DVD version. He is such a wonderful story teller though - I think it still holds up.

It looks absolutely dire. They've even re-used costume-armour - and I use that term loosely - from 'Vikings'.

Th historical inaccuracies are more troublesome.

If you saw the Netflix 'historical costume armour' for Alexander, it could blind you. Best avoid it, or just treat it like another fantasy flick.
I'll be avoiding it, like a certain recent Napoleon movie.

I have the book which I found fascinating even though it is not my era of interest. Not sure about the film from what’s been said though.

If it is the one from years ago it is great, I remember thinking how easy would it be yo follow his footsteps in the current world? Lots of talk of the Devil Alexander.
I do find it interesting that some great warrior leaders have solidly built up a vast empire built on glorious victories. Whilst other dictators have cruelly pillaged their way through their neighbour's inflicting genocide on all they meet.
Not bad for 07:00

Absolutely (certainly better than my snoring!). What you wrote about following his route these days…tough to do, possibly harder than when the series was filmed. The odd war-zone or two to traverse…

Not bad for 07:00 Even when the series was being made in the 1990s, it wasn't that easy. Michael Wood was "strongly advised" not to go to Iraq as some of his comments about, I think, the treatment of the Marsh Arabs had upset Saddam Hussein. He took the advice.
