So, at the risk of opening a can of worms, which is better for the game? Which are the rules (especially terrain) balanced best for? Secondly, and perhaps this belongs in the House Rules section, would a 24x36 (for 15mm) board be a reasonable compromise? Movement to contact would be the same as the smaller scale, but there would be more options to maneuver your LH around the flanks and such. (As far as terrain goes, you’d have 15% less board area than the bigger board but 43% more than the smaller board.) When we tried a bigger board, it didn’t seem to make too much difference to the ability of the light horse army to gain an advantage. With a 24x36” board the main disadvantage is that there are now effectively only two directions of play (unlike a roadless square board). This might play into the hands of the terrain-placing player.

Peter, many thanks…that might well improve our ability to assess the damage, near game end.👍🏼👍🏼

Baldie How do you make a Samnite force worse , when adding allies ? Ask the PIP dice…😁…there were two allies, I think, so three PIPs minimum to move the whole army. (?).

Well done to Mark and Phil for a) finding a commendable ‘second choice’ venue (very nice indeed 👍🏼) to rescue the event after being let down, and b) for then running a really good day of mixed up games.
Congratulations to ALL on the podium, and to Diades, who took the ‘prize’ of worst army (which I had hoped to achieve….obviously I wasn’t devious enough 😎).
Pics and a summary of my rather feebly played day of games will follow in due course, no doubt.

...a broken commands movement is quite limited. But it can close ways. For the opponent it is important to attack enemies with the new free forces to win the battle... Sorry, I have NO idea how this relates to my question 😶… Very‘ ‘Eric Cantona’….

BBDBA question:- I’m not experienced at BBDBA, so wondering if others who play it more could help…
If a command routs, do we count its lost sub-general (or even C-in-C) as ‘an extra element’.
So, eg if a command of 12 elements inc their sub-general is demoralised, further damaged and thus removed (at 1/2 losses), is this actually worth THIRTEEN elements when it comes to counting total losses across the army for ‘army break point’ (p13 of my hardback) ?

Today I received the painted army prize from Colin. It’s an Alan army, very nicely presented, as one might expect with ‘a genuine O’Shea’ 😁. Some figures were donated by Gordon Frater, a few others by Colin. And to top it all, it complies with the Alton theme for this year, having 5 LH and a Ps. Does that mean we can borrow it for the tournament - a sort of "try before you buy (or win)" offer? Of course, Bill….£500 deposit required 🙃

A query to Fanatici, an Alamanni general (Cv//4Wb) has a second warband element directly behind in contact forming a column. Dismounting, does the second element automatically close the distance to remain in column or must the adjustment cost a pip? How would you play this? I seem to recall that when v3 first came out this was discussed at some length (specifically relating to dismounting Mycenaean charioteers), and the ‘decision was ‘no, they end up separated’: just the front edges remain in place as you replace the LCh with the 4Bd, or in this case the Cv with the 4Wb.

...for me it is an anglosaxon error. The Alemanni were initialy a male group of loosers from beaten germanic tribes. They did fight as infantry including the commander. If there were any mounted troops, then any beaten Huns or Alans as scouts. The hardest enemies of Alemanni were Burgundians. That is the reason for Huns or Alans... ?

Greetings, gamers…
All the usual bumff about what , where and when will start being sent out after Steel Warriors is done, but in the meantime just a note to say:-

Cheers for now

It looks like the HMGS-PSW is running a small DBA tournament at the one-day con in San Diego. I plan on participating as my first-ever DBA tournament (and I also plan/anticipate getting slaughtered, but learning a lot). Good luck…report back!

Every time I've tried a landing it's been a disaster for me. It’s certainly a two-edged sword, the littoral landing 🙃.
