Working on this project since March of 2015 has gained an active following at Fanaticus and at TMP (The Miniatures Page), yet accessing information after 1 September 2016 readers will have difficulty finding old posts as the original Fanaticus will no longer be active and will disappear.
A number of current active projects at the old location have been moved to this forum and the Severan Dynasty project will be moved as well. This will take on a condensed form as the entire project is duplicated at my blog “Storm within the Empire”. How one may access a particular post is explained below.
Accessing old posts. Through that project I built 43 armies at last count plus constructed new terrain features and wrote a number of battle reports using DBA 3.0. To make accessing that information an easy operation I will post an index here with links. This will serve as a benchmark and new items will appear here.
New items. I am not sure I will be adding any new armies as I believe I have all that is required but the next phase of the Severan Dynasty project will include more scenarios and campaigns.
A campaign around Hadrian’s Wall between the Picts, Caledonian and Rome. A barbarian incursion, perhaps extending the Carnuntum scenario to reach the Adriatic. A campaign in Dacia between the Carpi, Sarmatae and Rome. S. Severus rise to power culminating at Issus. The Severan campaign in Parthia. Ardashir’s rise to power; from Hormizdeghan to Armenia.
Next: Severan Dynasty, an index of topics.

Thanks for posting this Robert. Cheers, My pleasure.
The Witcher Project should complete its move from the old Fanaticus to here this week. There were many followers for the Severan project that I found this a much better solution than copying 40 plus pages.
I have a six week window between projects so I will devote some of that time to developing the Severan campaigns mentioned in the introduction here.

An update – 28-08-2016 Two more test matches and the series between the Seleucid and her enemies will be complete.
As there has been considerable appreciation for the reports especially from players new to DBA 3.0 I have decided to do a similar series for the Middle Imperial Roman and Sassanid.
Many battle reports written for the Severan project did not feature the standard 12 element size command and therefore this upcoming series will follow the same format of three games, varied terrain, and if possible, the use of allies.
In addition, the campaign rules created for the Hispanic conquest by Rome are currently being modified as an option for two player use. Game play is streamlined and will players the chance to bring their battles played in an evening into a campaign context.
More later.

In the past four days the Middle Imperial Romans have fought against six eastern opponents totalling 18 games. Next week the series will be completed with the battles against the Nobades and Sassanid and I will be gradually posting them to the blog. The western opponents will follow shortly thereafter.
With that much placement of terrain in the past series I thought it may be useful to share some thoughts. The topic is not meant to be a "How to" treatise, but better what questions one should think about when placing terrain features. I am by no means an expert but have learned much in the past two months.

Severan Rome vs. Meroitic-Kush. I have started posting the historical test games this time set 400 years later during the Severan Dynasty.
Middle Imperial Rome (II/64) offers two sub-lists and the first eight pairings bring the eastern enemies to the game table.

Nice report Robert. I don't have my rules handy, have the Kush lost the El Gen in the list's upgrade to 3.0?

No, the El Gen is still listed. However, the option for the general mounted on El was waived as the Romans could field artillery.

Historically, the Hatrene sided with Parthia in their war against Rome, even supplying armoured camel troops. Hatra could easily defy Rome from behind her strong fortification, on the field of battle however, that might prove another story. Looks like a fairly matched set of opponents. The Parthians appeared to be prominent in the dispatches but what of the Nomads?

The Parthians do give the Hatrene an extra punch, but it remains a question which three elements are to be sacrificed. Much depends on the player’s style of game and his assessment of his opponent and in this case the Hatrene bowmen were selected to be exchanged.
There are fourteen matches planned for the Severan army of which two have been posted.
I plan a similar series for all three sub-lists of the Sassanid Persians which will include the Hatrene again and a number of new armies (Huns).
