Severan Army vs. Parthia Continuing the historical match series the latest is now posted to the blog, the Severan Army vs. Parthia.
Historically set during the twilight period of the Parthian Empire this would pit a strong Roman army against an internally weakened Parthian host. Despite this, Parthia managed a few surprises.

Severan Rome vs. the Carpi
Still using the eastern Roman army we switch geographical location from the arid region of Syria to Dacia. The Carpi are the successors to the Dacian and make their mark in history during the later part of the 3rd century AD. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2016/09/severan-army-vs-carpi.html

Severan Rome vs. the Usurper. This series of matches illustrates well the upheaval recorded during the century of crises as generals and politicians vied for the title “Emperor of Rome”.
The army lists are nearly identical with one minor difference between the two; the armoured cavalry are 3Kn for the western army and 4Kn for the eastern forces. dbagora.blogspot.nl/2016/10/severan-army-vs-usurper-west.html

Robert, excellent reports as always.
I have one question. What have you used to model the rough going, rather than areas of plough, in these photos?

Robert, excellent reports as always. I have one question. What have you used to model the rough going, rather than areas of plough, in these photos? The rough going in the photos have heather or thistle as scatter material. The thistle fields were manufactured by Busch, but unfortunately are no longer produced.
There is a UK firm that produces a similar product. www.sceneryexpress.com/departments.asp?dept=1032
Look under Flowering accessories.
The rate at which model railway are expanding their scenic lists is mind blowing. I will refurbish those fields seen in the photos as my next terrain project and I have a package of "grain field" from Busch.

Severan Rome vs. the Sarmatian The historical test series brings the Severan army against enemies from the Danube basin to the northern part of Britannia. The Western Roman army is similar in composition with only the armoured cavalry exchanging their 4Kn for a 3Kn.

Thanks for these. I clicked on the Armenians, but it took me to pre-Islamic Arabs.

Thanks for these. I clicked on the Armenians, but it took me to pre-Islamic Arabs. Strange? I just checked the Index and the Armenian topics came up good. The Pre-Islamic topics are two lines above.

Great reports. The knights of the Tervingi seemed to have given them an edge the Caledonians lacked.
