Once again, I'll be running a two day event at MOAB over the long weekend in September/October. Day 1, Vanilla Auxilia, will be focusing on Ax heavy armies. Day 2, The Crescent and the Cross, will be restricted to Muslim armies that fought Christian armies, and Christian armies that fought Islamic ones. Six rounds will be played each day. Additional details, along with registration, can be found here: www.motherofallbattles.org/tournaments-2023/#DBA . Registration opens on Saturday, 1st of July. Cheers,

Looking forward to it, Greg. And thanks for again putting your hand up to organise this comp.
Great that with themes like 'Vanilla Auxilia', we get to use armies that wouldn't normally be seen at a tournament. I'm tossing up between Early Samurai and Thracian.
Cheers Mark

The first 3 registrations have been lodged. Don't forget that entry fees increase on 19/9/23. So beat the price rise and register sooner rather than later.
Cheers,

I'm actually quite curious about your rationale for going through the effort of putting that army together and painting it. Like, were you sitting there the whole time thinking "this is going to be just so incredibly %$#&ing average, I can't wait to put it on the table." ?

I'm actually quite curious about your rationale for going through the effort of putting that army together and painting it. Like, were you sitting there the whole time thinking "this is going to be just so incredibly %$#&ing average, I can't wait to put it on the table." ? Well back in the very early 90s one of my then gaming group seized upon the release of DBA 1.0 as a means of enticing us to try ancients. It was decided we should paint armies for and play an Italian peninsular campaign. People quickly nominated armies - Romans, Gauls, Syracusans, Campanians, Carthaginians, etc. I opted for Italiot Greeks, but this was considered not "Italian peninsular" enough, so I was instructed to pick again - despite having already bought the figures! And yes, you guessed it, the only choice left were the Samnites! So they are a "campaign" army rather than a tournament one. Of course, when the group invariably moved on to DBM (we love big games and chrome), I opted to extend the Samnites to a DBM army. I fielded them at CanCon twice (once with a Gallic ally) and didn't come last!! The Samnites rarely grace the table, and I don't have to do any painting, so I am looking forward to fielding them at MAOB. And in the meantime I am building difficult hills and woods, lots of difficult hills and woods ...

I can confirm that the very talented Peter Callan is locked in to paint up the two trophies for 1st place for each day's competition.

He really does want a day of painβ¦ π±π P But imagine the joy if achieving a win or wins??!! ππΌππΌππΌ Imagine the pain of constantly reading the lists, putting together a killer force, practicing and developing the list, thinking which allies could help you, moving on to experiments with terrain ( all this done as a montage with a powerful rock ballad on loop ) then getting to the tourney and losing every game. Taking a force you are bound to lose with is quiet liberating.
