Mine was Kasandros II/18c 1 x Knight General 1 x Cav 4 x Solid Pike 4 x Fast Aux 1 x Elephant, it def died at least once 1 x Ps
I faced 3 Sucessor type forces I believe, though I was too excited to take pics or records I do remember bits. My Aux held/hid in cover apart from game against All New Stevie where has wall of knights got to place terrain. It was fun to play pike and aux actually, enemy bow and artillery caused issues.
My playing style meant I got lots of time to browse the shops and demo games

What an excellent day out. Many thanks to Mark for organising; all ran very smoothly and some inspired trophies! I also took Kassandros, an identical army to Baldie’s. I encountered no other pikes and plenty of pachyderms. I both lost to and heavily defeated Rajputs. I had all the luck against Tamils plus allies…and I lost out to all those Kushan knight-types with nowhere for my lighter troops to hide. Four very entertaining games with plenty of daylight to be able to better appreciate the aesthetics and four amiable opponents…and a significant show to walk around…awesome!

I was surprised to meet only one elephant in each of my four games and only one artillery piece. I also played against two pike armies - how often do we see these at tournaments nowadays? I hope to see a list of competing armies posted here at some point.Armies fielded at Colours ‘Problematic Pachyderms’ tournament- (Could someone fill in any blanks / correct any spotted errors, please?) Lindon - Kushan ‘a’ list + Skyth ally. Phil - Rajput Paul - Seleucid ‘d’ list Baldie - Kassandros, Macedonian Successor Martin M. - Kassandros, Macedonian Successor Paddy - T’ang Chinese Colin - Rajput Arnaud - Tamil + Hindu Indian ally (?) Steve E. - Antipatros Bill - Rajput Mike - Pyrrhic Martin S. - Hindu Indian ‘c’ list (+ In reserve I think Mark may have had Numidians on standby). My lot - III/10c Hindu Indian 1 x elephant general (unwise move….), 1 x El, 2 x Cv, 4 x 3Bw, 2 x Ps, 1 x 3Bd, 1 x Art.

Hello all,
I managed to get a list of armies, and there was a fair mix between those turning up with one nellie and those who bought a whole herd. I myself had Numidians on standby (5 LH inc Gen, plus a bunch of psiloi), but they ended up not taking the field. Thanks to all of those who travelled, some from as far away as Barnsley, Cardiff and Kent! Very honoured. We also raised £25 for a charitable elephant related cause, which i donated to the World Wildlife Foundation.
Armies were as follows:
3 x III/10b Rajput, plus one III/10c "Other" 5 x Successor armies, including one Seleucid (II/19d), 2 Kassandros (II/18c), 1 Antipatros (II/18a) and one later Phyrrhic (II/27b) One Tamil with Allies One Kushan with Skythian allies One later T'ang
Final results were:
1st Paddy Myers 2nd Lindon Paxton 3rd Baldie 4th Martin Smith 5th Martin Myers 6th Colin O'Shea 7th Arnaud Marmier (same number of points as Colin, but Sum of opponent's scores was slightly less) 8th Mike Baldwin 9th Steve Etheridge 10th Bill McGillivray 11th Phil Barrington 12th Paul Clair
Thanks to everyone who came along, you made me losing my tournament organising virginity less painful than I thought it might have been.

I don't know what Stevie used.

DBA Saturday at the Colours, Newbury show, in the lovely Newbury Racecourse grandstand building - lots of light and space, plus a trade show to sell us all some more toys. ..maaarvellous.
Thanks to Mark for supplying the Samnite and Seleucid army prizes, plus trophies and some neat little 3D printed elephant-shaped phone holders ✔️✔️
I took late Hindu Indians, Vijayanagar, with a couple of elephants, many bowmen, a solitary swordmen unit and some decent cavalry, augmented with some new-fangled bombards to scare off enemy elephants, and my games were -
1. Defending vs Phil Barrington’s Rajputs. My light troops and swordsmen scrapped with Rajput foot skirmishers and camp followers in woods on my left, while the artillery kept Rajput elephants from risking an advance in the centre. On my right the Rajput noble cavalry with camels in support charged my cavalry and bowmen, but my archers were having a good day and won the game by 4 kills to 2.
2. Invading the Kushan steppes, against Lindon Paxton, who brought Skythian heavy and light cavalry allies. The Indian bowmen guarded a gentle rise on the right against massed mounted attacks, while the centre tried to hold off advances by Kushan elephants and infantry spearmen (auxilia). The Hindu Indian artillery were overrun, and the game hung in the balance, but the enemy elephants were routed and our own fought hard to secure a tightly fought win (4-2).
3. Attacking Macedon, faced by Kassandros’ successor army (II/18c) under Baldie. The Indian left rested on a coastline, and inland the Macedonian peltasts (3Ax) swept into a temple complex on my right, giving the Indian swordsmen and skirmishers a tough time, while elsewhere the Indian elephants and archers fought a nail-biting clash with the Macedonian heavies. Could have been anyone’s game, but Indian archery was ‘on target’ again, resulting in a 4-2 win.
4. Last group stage game, facing an invasion by Paul Clair’s Seleucids (II/19d). The Seleucid deployment was somewhat hampered by enclosed fields and a village, but they doggedly advanced to the attack, their mounted inc. cataphracts charging the Indian left and causing some chaos. In the centre my artillery did little, while the ‘pikemen from hell’ (a single rank Macedonian 4Pk unit) repeatedly repulsed the Indian swordsmen against all odds, until finally overwhelmed (after around 5-6 combats….😳). A very tight game, but luck went the way of the Indians at the end, for a 4-3 marginal win.
5. Semi-final time, much to my surprise. I invaded T’ang China, against the wily Paddy Myers. The left flank Indian foot skirmishers tried to rush the opposing Chinese crossbowmen in some scrubland, but their attack ground to a halt. Swordsmen moving up in support were intercepted by T’ang spearmen, one unit of which was routed by artillery fire. Confused fighting followed, but Paddy’s calm control of his forces overcame his somewhat shambolic Indian opponent, giving him a well deserved win by 4 to 2.
6. Last game, a playoff for third place, invading against Baldie once more, but on a more open battlefield. Once again the Indians fought over a temple complex against Macedonian/Thracian peltasts, and tried a few bow shots at Kassandros himself, without success. When a hole appeared in the Indian centre the elephant general and escorts felt obliged to intervene, charging the opposing phalanx. Success saw the problematic pachyderms drive deep into the pikemen, only to be surrounded and slaughtered, leaving the Indians leaderless. Kassandros boldly charged an exposed unit of archers and the game was his (I lost track, but result was possibly 4-2?? El general worth three kills in this tournament, and the loss of archers was the ‘final straw’).
A very enjoyable tournament, with a clever and unusual twist in the theme - having to take a certain unit type but making it a liability changed a few approaches to play. No more massed elephant charges, at least not in games I saw. A good day out 👍🏼👍🏼.
## Photos now on facebook. Will add some to groups.io when back in decent interweb territory. ##
