Timurilank, lovely photo reports (from links above) and I like the ideas of 'collision course' deployment and of playing cards for time passing... didn't Peter Pig or RFCM rules use something similar as a clock for ending day fight? I may use your idea in a solo game as this would be great way to add uncertainty to how many turns a game will last... if so its one to share with other solo gamers via Lone Warrior if its not infringing others intellectual property rights?? CarlL Carl, The set of twelve are being tested and revisions will certainly follow. I am unaware of other systems; been in the WRG/DBA camp since the 1970’s. The playing card idea is one presented here by Stevie. After completing the series of tests, there is still much to be done. The accumulated points, how should this influences the CinC’. Command distance for LH will include cavalry, but not elites. Temporary fortifications. Updates will be posted regularly, here and at the blog.

Cheers timurilank, I recall Tony Barr, formerly of SoA and East Riding Miniatures fame, sharing a copy of original gunpowder DBA with me many years ago, but I couldn't persuade others to try them out although I then found and bought a copy of a DBA derivative, DBN that was a campaign booklet for wargaming the 1815 Hundred Days campaign in DBA style which I enjoyed solo wise. Sounds like the new variant including 1650 to 1850 could be fun to try out with my Portuguese colonial army that fought in East Africa, the Gulf States, and India, in that period. I can't recall if their small intervention in Abyssinia for 'Prester John'. Cheers CarlL

The Campaign in Poland 1655.
Tests for all the scenarios are done. Completing them has developed into a good narrative of how a campaign can develop.
The results will be uploaded tomorrow.

The Defragged History Channel’s coverage of the Eighty Years War, has inspired a similar application for sieges.
The siege of ‘s-Hertogenbosch (1629) is serving as a model. An overview will be posted tomorrow.

Weather rules are best suited for larger battles; Double DBA or BBDBA... Vodnik, Thank you for the comment. Some aspects of weather are present in DBA3; rain will affect plough, becoming rough going and rainfall would make crossing rivers difficult. At the moment, further weather influences are not considered, but you never know. Sorties can take place after nightfall and this will require testing. Our Battle of Mortimer involved a pre-dawn attack, giving us a base to start with. The Spanish (80 Years War) covered their armour with a white shirt to tell friend from foe during night attacks, hence the term camisado.

The summer of 1658, Sweden left the stagnant situation in Poland to shift its effort against the Danes.
The month of June was spent encountering Danish patrols, screening the Danish retreat through Funen.
A channel crossing to Zeeland should bring the Danes to a decisive battle, hopefully ending the campaign.

The campaign’s second month saw much cavalry action with Sweden gaining the upper hand.
With their backs to the wall, the Danes offered battle. Beginning mid-morning, the battle lasted until dusk with the Swedish cavalry routing their opposite number.
On the opposite flank, the Swedes captured the hamlet to expose the Danish centre, eventually forcing the Danes to retreat off the field and seek shelter behind their walls.

The 1658 campaign in Denmark is complete. A brief overview with photos can be read at the blog.
With 24 tests and two major battles done, I had planned to design sieges in a similar way.
Up till now, the tests were made using forest and arable terrain features, however, exploring the littoral option, this opens many possibilities.
Work has begun on this and it looks good.
