Two dozen Blue Moon foot figures are painted; tomorrow the detailing and highlighting. These add two elements of mixed militia shot and pike, two forlorn hope (Ps) and two heavy artillery.
The musketeer and artillerymen are from the ECW list; excellent castings and robust when compared with the Mexican War miniatures purchased years back.
The pikemen are conversions from “Rebels with farm implements”. Their style of clothing is very generic matching well with the ECW musketeers.

Interest for copies of the DBA-HX3 variant prompted a review of the army list.
I noted the omission of the Ottoman, Cossack and Tatar armies and will post them here in the coming weeks.

Additional Army list – late 17th century.Thinking of possible enemies for the Polish Commonwealth, I discovered the DBA-HX3 army lists lacked the Cossack, Ottoman and Tatars. Both DBR and Tony Aguilar’s monumental work were referenced to compile the additional lists. Most changes will reflect the increased use of the musket and/or the decline in the use of certain troop types. The Cossack are now posted to the blog, Ottoman and Tatars will follow next week. 18thcenturysojourn.blogspot.com/2022/03/additional-army-lists-late-17th-century.html

Don cossacks having 3*Shot, 3*Blade, 4*LH and than having the option of 3*Wb (Peasants) cant be right. Decebalus, Correct, as the total number of elements would be 13 and not 12. However, you are not obligated to use 12 elements, but may increase the number of elements to say 24, easily accommodating the peasants. Another option, a scenario may call for an enemy assault on a Cossack settlement (stanitsas), garrisoned by blade and shot and augmented by peasants as the light horsemen are away. Also: Most encounters between the Cossack and their enemies took the form of a kleiner krieg or small war; attacking convoys, armouries, fortified posts, etc. The podcast, posted earlier, explains the origin of the Cossack at the 37 minute mark.

Mid-17th century flags
Currently, all the French and Imperial flags will be remade to allow their replacement by other nations.
The system proved useful for the late medieval collection, doubling the number of possible armies that could be fielded.
Currently, flags for the Swedes are nearly done, the Danes are next.
The Second Northern War brought together a large number of nations into conflict. Of interest, the war in Europe spilled over to the Americas – new Netherlands, new Sweden.

30 Blue Moon ECW have been cleaned and undercoated.
These will make four elements, 2 x militia (mixed shot and pike) and 2 x levy (solid horde), useful for any of the German Minor States.

The first batch are now based. Ground work, grass and tufts will be done later. Working on the last batch of 34 figures. Similar to the above, but add a commander and skirmisher.

The final batch of mixed infantry and horde are done.
Tomorrow, I will add staffs to allow the replacement of flags. Groundwork, grass and tufts will follow at the end of the week.
A few battles with the Polish army are soon on the order.

Stretching the collection.
Following a tip by James Roach of Olicanalad’s Games, I completed a project to double the DBA armies of the late medieval collection, from 24 to 45 armies. This involved nothing more than the painting of interchangeable flags for their new identity. See here: dbagora.blogspot.com/2020/12/stretching-collection.htmlA similar project is underway for the mid-17th century collection which are all Legio Heroica. Currently, two dozen flags for Spain and France are nearly complete and in the coming months, more will be added for the major powers of Western Europe.

After the holidays, I will resume the project and paint Dutch and Imperial ones. Now, there are a few scenarios to tinker with.
