Detailing the 24 Pancerni can begin tomorrow. In the meantime, the infantry, guns and dragoons have been based, groundwork added and flocked. Flags will be added after the collection is complete. These took longer to finish, but they are now done. Varnishing them tonight. Horse furnishings were the most complicated, consisting of stripes, tassels, and metal fittings.

The dozen winged hussars and two generals are on the work bench. Fixing the individual parts required a large dose of patience, but all is ready for an undercoat.
From the original order, only a dozen Cossack LH remain to do, then I will place a new order with Legio Heroica.

A heavy storm suspended all train travel as of this afternoon.
Despite this, the Polish Winged Hussars are painted and tomorrow the detailing can begin.
By way of an experiment, I thinned black paint with Nuln Oil to outline leather equipment of the horse. In the past, using either one would appear dull or diffused, but mixing the two worked well.
Units or banners were raised by individual Polish nobles making uniformity of clothing less likely; therefore, the twelve hussars are painted in varied colour.

Taking time to detail the winged hussars and the figures are shaping up nicely. The wings: Nearly all painted models found on the Internet have white feathers, however, Raptor feathers used for the wings are of other colours. Interesting.

Twelve Cossack LH are done, varnishing later today and tomorrow, basing.
Next week and for most of the week, the painting of 22 flags and banners plus 12 pennons (winged hussars) will keep me busy. I should have a write up with photos next Tuesday. However, the elements will lack their banners.

The Polish – late 17th century.
The collection of Polish infantry, cavalry and supporting units has been posted to the blog. Adding banners to nearly all the elements and pennons for the hussars should be done by next week. And photos of them in battle array will be added to the same page. 18thcenturysojourn.blogspot.com/2022/03/the-poles-late-17th-century.html

Will you be adding any of the "western" regiments that were in the Polish army? Cheers,

Will you be adding any of the "western" regiments that were in the Polish army? Cheers, Indeed, I will. The Blue Moon order of English Civil War figures will be used for the mercenaries and foreign contingents. I imagine these come from the bordering regions such as Silesia and the former Danish held areas along the Baltic coast. Of the twenty infantry regiments present for the relief of Vienna (1683), a number were non-Polish (possibly Greben, Buttler, Danemark).
