Returning to the Southern Dynasty Chinese after an unavoidable Holiday which arrived before I could start basing....it's time to start basing.π There are 26 bases to do including add on elements so this may take a few days.π

I had a few distractions over the weekend, Thursday was a farewell lunch for a colleague Friday is the day I usually hang out with the other retired wargamers of a certain age Saturday I played a complex mathematical boardgame with the elder of the (Not So) little warbands
So that left Sunday - I finished 1xSp and 1xPs for the Communal Italians, the sun was setting and I was close to finishing some Ax for the Ptolemaics and 3Pk for Hittites - but the Ptolemaics kept coming unstuck from the strip and needed to be glued back.
So I did the Wood/Flesh/Metal on the remaining strips and splashed a few more dabs of colour on the remaining strips - so many of them have moved from daunting problems from the lead mines of Mt Neverpaint to becoming potential finished elements next weekend.
Cheers

The change of weather on our north east coast of England led me to catch up on my matt varnishing of painted figures, which I like to do outdoors with a spray. Yesterday afternoon, and especially this morning with its still, warm air got the varnish mojo into hyper drive and I completed varnishing on my recent Sassanid additions, and the following BIG DBA armies from last two winters: Parthian, Carolingian Frank, Islamic Berber and West Sudanese. Then my 1913 Somaliland Constabulary (in mounted and dismounted mode) not ancients but lovely on their mainly camel mounts!! They were touch dry fairly quickly in the warm air, so I moved them indoors and laid them out on my games table to let the varnish 'cure' ... of course this stunk out the games / painting room so I need a good breeze now to clear the air in there!! .... and mojo or not I wont be gaming or painting in there presently!! With the Southern Dynasty Chinese army completed that's 3 Asian armies I've painted consecutively,so it's time for a poke in another direction.I've had an Italian Lombard contingent for a while that has lurked amongst my Normans so that I could represent early Southern Norman armies in Italy. On deciding to acquire a Maurikian Byzantine army(as yet unpainted), I also noticed I could add elements to the existing Lombard contingent and be able to use the army as either III/2 Early Lombards or III/21ab Italian Lombards offering a Historical opponent for the Byzantines & the Normans respectively.Leaving the Early Lombard elements to a later date, I've decided to forge on and complete the Italian Lombard army as it's quite a small project...4xSp,1x3Gen,1x3Bw & 1x2Ps....today the painting begins.π

A bit of painting on the weekend 1xHCh and 2x3Pk for the Hittites - the Pk will go into my existing army so that the foot look more like Pikemen. The original Hittite foot will go to the Scrap Build army joining the HCh that was removed from the 2.2 list along with the newly painted HCH and an existing LCh. Eventually I'll have a painted Hittite army for sale.
I also completed 1x3Kn for the Communal Italians

Slow progress with iii/33 early North Africans 10 elements of the 20 needed for an all options army painted. 3xSp, 6xPs 1x3Bw. Think I need a speed painter rather than speed paints! K

I had a record session at the painting desk this weekend - something I haven't managed for a while
The Hittites got another 2x3Pk The Communal Italians got 1x3Kn, 1x7Hd, 1xSp and 1xPs The Macedonian Early Successor (Kassandros) had 3x4Ax finished - the army is now Battle Ready (ie I can put my chosen 12 elements on the table) The Ptolemaics got 2x3Ax and 2x4Ax - the army is now legal (ie I can field a 12 element army from what is painted) I also completed 2x4Bd for my Later Mycenaean - so that the dismounted charioteers are in full (Dendra Panoply armour) rather than naked with a sword and big sheild.

I have a slight problem, in that raiding my lead pile is constantly giving me extra 25mm armies to paint. Currently on with: Pergamene, Lydian, Kappadokian, Maccabean and Thessalian.
