Thegns, Galwegians and mounted Scots are done. Tomorrow I will need to buy some extra scenic material, but the army will be based.
This weekend will be devoted to painting banners for the Scots, new ones for the Middle Anglo-Saxon and Viking collections.
It will be party time in Northumbria soon.

Down to the home stretch, twenty-eight bases covered with sand/glue mix. Tomorrow, grass and tufts. Any suggestions for a Pre-Feudal Scots banner?

The Cross of Saint Andrew was only adopted in the 14th century, and there's little information that I can find for earlier. Would a safe bet be a boar or deer, possibly a Celtic version?

Yeah that's what I was going to suggest something Celtic/ Pictish.

I am painting a mixture of things:
1. Some fantasy figures - currently painting Reaper Bones female wizards with my 10 year old daughter. They are to be player character sisters in some future role playing adventure. 2. More Irish for SAGA, my favourite mini game for the last few years. 3. I am about to paint Count Dookoo for Legion. My older son is getting into it and is painting up whole armies. I just want Christopher Lee with a light sabre in miniature. 4. I am building some MDF buildings of various kinds - a hobbit house and a viking hall 5. Working a bit more on some terrain stuff. I am not a great terrain maker, so I improved a few things I had sort of part made.

Pre-Feudal Scots bannergregorius, I had expected the cross of Saint Andrew (saltire) appeared much later – 14th/15th c.? An option to consider, thanks. Les1964 , I can adapt a few ideas for banners. Thank you for the link. sonic , Animal symbols might be the way to go. Thanks for the suggestions.

Are animal symbols appropriate as the Scots would have been a significantly Christianised people from about the 8th century onwards? Unless you are depicting Scandinavian Scotland with a very strong pagan Norse influence. If Christian Scots then perhaps Celtic crosses if you think that St. Andrew's cross is too anachronistic.
Cheers,

Cheers, Greg,
Good point. Two Celtic crosses are planned for the commander (Cv and 4Wb). Banners are interchangeable with some having animal designs. This way, Early War, Middle War or Late War Pre-Feudal Scots can be deployed.
