Nearly finished a Sicel army. Just the Cv General to go ... Sonic - that’s a coincidence. I need some Sicels (an element of 3Ax for both the early Carthaginians I/61a and the Syracusans in Sicily II/9a). What figures have you used? Cheers, Geoff

Geoff, I've looked into the Sicels and seen that they were probably Italian immigrants from the mainland. So it could be any mix of Italian or Greek armour, depending upon the historian's point of view. I've decided that they would be using Greek armour (influenced by Syracuse etc) where possible but not fighting in Greek formation due to their home terrain - hence the Ax designation. [Following the latest research I'd also suggest that early Republican Roman 'hoplites' should possibly be Ax as well.] Consequently, I've used some very old Mike's Models Greek hoplites. They aren't wearing the heavy bronze cuirass but some form of scale armour. Using modern figures, I'd probably opt for broadly the same type of figure: either a linen cuirass or just a tunic or a mix. As the troops you are looking at were mercenaries, I'd have a helmet as well. Although this may seem 'heavy' armour, don't forget that the Ax are based upon Roman auxilia with full armour!

Thanks for the info Sonic. I was intending using Ancient & Modern figures - the old Donnington ranges - specifically the “Ancient Italian States” range and using figures with round shields, some armour and armed with a javelin/spear or two. Hopefully they’ll be about right (and, after all, who’s to say they aren’t). 😀 Thanks again, Geoff

Just needing to wash the last two elements - the cavalry general and a normal Cv - for the Villanovans. Still loads of bases to sort out though.

I've started work the Pyrrhic forces. I'm going to do the a and b versions, though without the 4Wb option. First up will be the 4xPs and 1x3Ax elements. I've cleaned them up and added javelins. The figures are glued to painting nails. I hope to spray undercoat them tomorrow.
Cheers,

TBH, I cannot decide what army to paint next. I spent the Spring acquiring all the armies I wanted to have, game, and paint and now I cannot decide what to paint next. Kinda thinking its time to make sure that each of the armies I've currently have finished get their appropriate matched opponent, still another part of me wants to venture in a direction of completely new armies

A bit of repainting will follow, but between test games I have been rebasing a small number to field 3Pk, 3Bd, Ps (crossbowmen) and jinetes (LH). These will fill the gaps in the French Ordonnance, Condotta and the two Iberian armies

To much stuff on the go to make my mind up where to go.
I am in the middle of a re basing task for my EIR force to be used in Infamy, then got all my pike to do for DBA and Lart which were supposed to be next on the list.
However some great games of impetus mean I intend to add a hundred or so points to my 6mm EAP force.
Then just the usual scores of unfinished projects.

Over the weekend I started basing a Later Hoplite (Other) army using some of the figures from the Bern's estate. These are mostly old Peter Laing with a smattering of old strip Minifigs. The latter were mine from my teen years (the first army I ever owned - for WRG5th Edition) and require some surgery before they can be put on the table again.
I also pulled out the paints last night and finished the last element for my Beja army (1xLH - Arab) and the penultimate element for my East Frankish (1x3Kn)
So the Beja now join the ranks of my completed DBA3 Armies
cheers
