I use self-cut and self-painted MDF boards, but I've been intrigued about tying a mat. I've got my eyes on DeepCut, a studio from Lithuania. Anyone has used their products? Hi Vic, I saw Deepcut at the Tactica show in Hamburg at the weekend. Their mats looked nice up close. Felt like a thin mouse mat. They looked easy to roll up etc. I didn't get one at the time as they don't do 2'x2' as standard, but they said to go on their website and they can basically cut to order. Cheers, Eg
Thanks!

Do people know if Cigarbox sheets are double sided? What do they do on the flip side? Those DBA cut out sheets look GREAT, but no sure if they are reversbile.
Even a regular 4x6 "Europe" would be useful for other games, but again, I don't know what they print on the other side.

I think you are talking about one of their other products, but this double-sided mat from them looks very interesting:

Yeah that's the one! I can't see anything about it on their website, might have to ping them, as I think they are printed to order so perhaps you specify that when ordering. Thanks for the link! Those reviews look terrific.

I believe that Cigarbox does not usually stock the 2 sided mats. They run a Kickstarter from time to time to take pre-orders on the 2 sided mats, then they make a special order. I could be wrong, so check with Cigarbox.

They are planning a late summer Kickstarter for double sided mats

I buy 2x2 MDF 'hobby boards' from Home Depot (seriously, for less than $4 each, how could I not?) I've got one I just purchased ready to be terraformed into my DBA board, but here is an example of one I made for another game I play, Bushido:

I like that, do you put a frame around it?

I like that, do you put a frame around it? Thanks LarryR, I won't be framing this one, but I'm thinking my others going forward may have a frame built on. We'll see!

I also bought one of those 2' x 2' MDF boards at Home Depot when I was in there looking for ideas. I painted mine a grass green color and didn't flock it. Flocking deletes the ability of the stands to slide on the board. Also no problem of the board laying flat & staying that way. Of course, you can't just roll it up when the game's over.

I am the opposite of you, and have been trying for ages to get a board that does not allow the bases to slide around (I am a self-confessed figure fidgeter).
I found that using the "Ready Grass" mat material from Woodland Scenics coupled with gluing felt to the bottom of my bases, now ensures that my figures do not slide around.
It is like having velcro-lite for my armies!
